Yep. I don't really want Bonino but if he is on a 2 year deal, I don't care.

I am still really torn about Shattenkirk. I am at the point now where part of me wants him and part of me doesn't. I believe we have a good team. I believe with a few tweaks this team can compete. I also know we have some good defensemen. We just re-signed Smith. We have McDonagh, Smith, Skjei, DeAngelo, Staal, Holden, Bergalzov (however you spell it)... + other young kids pushing. It is highly unlikely that any of the other kids will ever sniff Shattenkirks level of play. Skjei could, DeAngelo could and I don't know enough about Berglazov to know what his potential is but from everything I read, he is an NHL defenseman right now.

It is absurdly unrealistic to expect this organization to sit Staal. Anyone who hopes for other wise may as well hope to hit the lottery.

I feel like we are going in the right direction. I dunno. He is too good to pass up but I feel like we should have made other moves to accommodate him if we wanted him.
 
I have a strange feeling that if we get Shattenkirk, we will trade Skjei as part of a package including Hayes/Miller to get an "elite/1st line" C, like Duchene/Mckinnon...just a hunch. Of course, if there was some way to get rid of Staal's contract that is another story, but I don't see that happening!
I don't believe we will get Shattenkirk, and will have maybe 2 new/rookie D's start the year in NY, with at least one in the top 6 (DeAngelo).

I do not think the rangers are even thinking of trading Skjei.. and certainly not for Duchene...

Mackinnon? you can get me to budge.
 
It's unfortunate that Duchene isn't locked up long term, otherwise I'd have no hesitation to include Skjei in a deal for him. (Provided we bring in Shattenkirk)

The cap probably wouldn't work out though.
 
Absolutely not. I wouldn't deal Skjei for Duchene straight up. You're way overrating Duchene. He is good, and his style would fit this team, but Skjei is better.
 
Duchene had 41 points last year.. He hasn't hit 60 in 4 years... come on man.. He's not worth Skjei, no way no how. I don't care how bad his team is considered.

Agreed. I'm really torn on Shatty. Part of me really wants him to round out this defensive unit and the other part of me wants the Rangers to stay far away from that potential contract.

Gorton isn't moving Skjei, not even in a package for MacKinnon.

Skjei, next to Lundqvist is one of the few untouchables on the team as far as trading goes.

He definitely had a down year last season but he's been playing on a dumpster fire team and averages 60 points per 82 games. I'm not offering an opinion as to whether he's worth Skjei, but let's not pretend Duchene is some schmuck.

It really is hard cause he's a top offensive Dman . Can McD make him better ?

Then Skjei/Smith. Then Holden/Berzeglov/Deangelo

If they can't dump Staal they likely move Holden

His name is Alexei Bereglazov.

Skjei is a no go unless I'm getting MacKinnon. I'd trade Graves or Day + a forward for Duchane. That's fair.

But he was a part of the dumpster fire. It has to fall on someone, but we keep excusing the guys we want. He quit on the team after the trade deadline, right or wrong. Sure, the supporting cast wasn't great but they have higher end talent than we do.

Duchene is shaping up to be like Stepan, borderline 1-2 center. Just like RNH. Trading a young, up and coming cost controlled, puck moving defenseman for anything short of a top 15 center is silly. We're just prolonging mediocrity.

I'm not a tank and rebuild guy, but I'd rather feel the pain next season with the parts we have right now rather than use valuable assets to get a worse version of Stepan.
