Why is Nick Holden still a Ranger? I mean. I get it with Staal. But let's get Holden out of here already.

dang dude it's still June, we're not even out of the month the cup was won in ;)

I'd rather keep Holden and trade Staal to be honest. Move Holden back to the left side and keep him there, pair him with a young player, go from there

If we're talking fantasy that is

If a great forward is not available now we should only look to sign guys to 1 year deals. That way we keep our powder dry until a great forward does become available.

He is relatively cheap (1.65 mill) and plays both sides. Don't think they will just dump him. Lets wait and see how things play out. He may get put in a trade.

I agree 100% with this, especially since this fa class is trash overall.

Just get rid of one of Staal/holden.. I know HOlden is cheap, but I want no reason whatsoever to give AV even a chance to pair the two together...

There's no rush to trade Holden. His 1.65 cap hit isn't killing this team. Find a good deal or hold on to him.

I'd like to see both Staal and Holden gone. The optimist in me is hopimg the that the reason Holden is still is because a much hoped move of Staal to FLA for Bjugstad is in the works, and Holden is a safety net as the 6th/7th Dman. The more likely reason is that the Gorton is waiting to see how teams fair in free agency and who might need an inexpensive like Holden.

so that sounds like they're willing to go 2 tho... I don't know about that

Unless someone wants to overpay for Holden I'd rather keep him. He's a terrific #7 and would be absolutely fine as a #6.

If there was a way to get rid of staal via trade without being punished for it and keep Holden, I'd be all for it.

I agree and I actually might be inclined to call him better than a 6 but allthis goes out the window when i remember AV is still
the coach

do not trust him in the slightest. he'll find a way to get his toys minutes

Patience indeed. People were freaking out about Girardi. Gorton buys him out. People were concerned we hadn't signed Smith yet. Its done. My guess is Gorton waits to see who misses out on a defenseman in FA and then find a desperate GM to overpay for Holden.

Thats what I would do. But what do I know.

If it's Bonino vs Thornton and Thornton will take a 2 year deal, I would do it for the right price. Bonino is fine, but under the same conditions. There's no reason to overpay a guy whom might be the 4C by January. Also since the team is basically still retooling, rebuilding on the fly or whatever the **** it's called, there's no reason to give UFAs whom are not long term solutions, 3+ year deals.

Agreed. Every non-marquee addition needs to be on a short deal.

No. NO! We're doomed, I tell you. DOOMED!

In all seriousness I agree. I mean, we might be doomed when all is said and done, but as of today we're not.
