But he was a part of the dumpster fire. It has to fall on someone, but we keep excusing the guys we want. He quit on the team after the trade deadline, right or wrong. Sure, the supporting cast wasn't great but they have higher end talent than we do.

Duchene is shaping up to be like Stepan, borderline 1-2 center. Just like RNH. Trading a young, up and coming cost controlled, puck moving defenseman for anything short of a top 15 center is silly. We're just prolonging mediocrity.

I'm not a tank and rebuild guy, but I'd rather feel the pain next season with the parts we have right now rather than use valuable assets to get a worse version of Stepan.

I think Duchene with a new change of scenery would be reinvigorated.

so I signed Zibanejad to the Brassard deal. 5X5
signed Fast 2 years 1.75M
signed Shattenkirk 6 years 6.5
Nilsson 1 year 1M

and it leaves me (with a Holden trade, and lets be real he can easily be traded SOMEWHERE).. 6M for a 3rd and 4th line center.. I think its extremely doable.

Also, is there a chance that Andersson could play in the NHL this year? maybe he's the 3C this year?

If Andersson makes the NHL roster I can't seem him being above the 4C.

I'd be inclined to give him one more year. As much as I would love to see him come into the NHL and put up solid numbers, there is also a very realistic chance that it backfires and I don't want to do that to the highest pick we have had in over a decade.

Agreed. No one should be off limits for the right price.

Sakic wants more than that. Truth be told, Skjei for Duchene is actually a fair deal. Zero chance I would ever consider it but the value isn't that far off.

I disagree. If Duchene didn't have a down year or only 2Y left on his contract. Sure then that's fair. As it stands there a risk/ reward there that any team has to take. He could totally s*** the bed.

I proposed something similar on the main board and got roasted by Avs fans.

And we roasted Arizona fans for thinking that Stepan could be had for what he was traded for. Only difference is that our GM lives in the real world while Sakic is the worst GM that the NHL has seen for the past 20 years.

Sakic will either find a sucker to pay his price or Duchene eventually get traded for a nominal price once Sakic is fired. There is no other outcome in my opinion.

I'm totally on board with giving him one more year of development and then look into integrating him on the NHL roster next season.

I didn't say I would do it but Skjei for a guy who is a 1C and has had 1 down year... isn't a bad deal. You could argue that the down year is the only reason at all the trade could be made.

Again, I wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole.

Maybe but I'm not paying a premium on that gamble. Sakic created that mess, I'm not throwing him a life preserver. I'm pushing him back down with my toes. Arizona put the squeeze on us. He can either take a bath on duchene or have a blast with that locker room. I'll laugh when they finish under Vegas and draft #4.

925K defenseman who is a RFA for another 3-4 years has to be taken into consideration.. Not only was it a down year, it was a down year for a guy with a 6M cap hit.

I want nothing to do with Andersson in the NHL this year. He needs to develop further before he comes here, let him focus on producing and evolving as a player as opposed to minimizing mistakes as a 19yo in a checking line role.

I concur. But teams don't normally trade players of Duchenes cal... well we just did. Still. Take Duchenes previous production into account, where Colorado was last year as a team and what he could do on a team like ours, it is a fair deal IMO.

Sakic turned down Hamonic + 1st for Duchene. Skjei is already better than Hamonic one could argue and you are right, the RFA status is very valuable. 1 for 1 it is as fair of a deal as you get. That being said, I don't even consider it for a second.

Did you remove Klein's dollars?

How did Arizona put the squeeze on us? Wunderkid admitted to pursuing Stepan for over a year and the Rangers were high on DeAngelo. Just because we wanted more doesn't mean we got screwed. If the brass was right and DeAngelo can be THAT guy, we won the deal. I was upset with it at first, very upset. But now, cooler heads have prevailed and I can see why the deal was made. We had serious concerns about Stepans mobility in a game that is only getting faster and faster. If we didn't make the trade now, it was never going to get made. We did fine.

Thankfully This should end the shattenkirk thing. He would be nice but can't afford him and I would rather a few kids play.

Spend some $$ on filling in gaps or work on a hockey trade to get better up the middle.

Let the devils offer shatty 6 for 7 and enjoy that deal in yrs 4-7

I'm starting to believe that the retirement thing was indeed a pure bluff to not get selected by ARZ. Granted there organization isn't great in terms of success but there are much worse places to play IMO. Klein obviously feels differently. He has been on a winning team for a while now. That is important.

How long is the SHL season? Would it be possible for Andersson to get in a full season there and come over at the end of the year?
