Minnesota didn't qualify Christian Folin. They were afraid of Folin filing for salary arbitration and getting $1.4M. Maybe the Rangers should look at signing him for a year. Stop gap. Right handed. Who is the next Pouliot,Stalberg & Grabner? They look at adding that type of player. Cheap. Short term. Maybe flip at the trading deadline for a pick.

Theres no room for Yakupov.

If the teams plan is to compete then Replacing Stepan and the role he played with Yakupov is a disaster. And yes i know it wouldnt go down exactly like that, it would be Miller sliding back to Center and getting PK time which I am not ok with. I really like Miller but im not high on his game when it comes to the defensive side of the puck.

They need a veteran.

You do realize we need to sign more then 1 forward this summer, right? Yakupov doesn't need to replace Stepan, he's a depth reclamation project ffs.

Teams can bottom out for a year and rebound. Folks like to point out the failed rebuilds in different cities, but this team doesn't have to strip it all down and tank for 1st overall picks. Anaheim bottomed out in 2012 and added Lindholm. They made the playoffs the following year, then Lindholm suited up for them the year after and has been a workhorse ever since.

This draft is shaping up to be a very, very good one. The Rangers could get a kid in the top-10 who could step in very quickly and make an impact. They drafted this year with the goal of getting kids who will make the jump quickly.

They need additional picks. I'd love to have multiple picks in the first and second round next year.

Many good options, mainly looking at C's though because of our glaring hole there; Grigorenko, Yakupov, Burmistrov, Weal, Nestrasil... That's 5 solid options imo.

Where is he playing? On what line? What wing?

Does it matter? he can play anywhere up and down the lineup, you don't make the lines in July, geez.

Big deal if Yakupov ends up being 4RW or even 13F after camp? He would be a cheap high upside depth reclamation project.

Why waste the time with a player who doesnt have a clue as to what defense is and who just cant consistently put it all together? He shouldnt play in the top 6. Maybe top 9. But its not that simple to just say sign him up and we'll find a spot. I wouldnt want him playing over Buch of Vesey.

I don't see this glaring need for forwards. I thought we had to many last year. A lot of same people crying that Buchnevich was on fourth line last year are same clamoring for wingers.

Kreider Zibanejad Buchnevich
Vesey Miller Nash
Grabner Hayes Zucc
Glass/Puempel Nieves/Andersson Fast

Maybe maybe if u want to push grabner down to the fourth line bring a guy in but to me it's the least of my worries.

Rebuild the right side with smith and Shattenkirk and get a goalie over 6'2 and I'll be content

Eh, Yakupov isn't even that bad defensively, look at his numbers. That whole thing of "x player needs to play in the top 6" is dead to me.

Skilled players work fine on the 4th line, all depends on the usage from the coach.

I think it's just that simple, you sign up a bunch of potentially good players and have them fight it out at camp, some make the team, some get traded and some go to AHL.

I'd try for short term 2 year deal with Thornton. Let's miller stay on the wing. Although I believe he should be playing center and figuring it out for good.

If Thornton is a no I probably don't even care if we add another forward.

Instantly on my must sign list. Fits this system.

He can skate, long reach. 25 teams were after him as a UDFA.

Upside is not huge, but think Sustr except smaller. Doesn't play a big physical brand of D, but is very cerebral.

Is weak against big bodied grinders, but that's more of a concern in the western side of the league instead of the east. Same reason why Sam Bennet struggles offensively besides a lack of strength.

You don't play for Hitchcock and have zero inclination for D

Folin would be a good move. Minny is wasting time hoping for a miracle offer for Scandella.

This guy is worse, and older than, Clendening.

Why do we need him?

Because Clendo and AV did not match up well on the dancefloor?

So we're okay with bringing in worse players because our coach doesn't know how to properly utilize better ones?

I'm just not sure I see the fascination with Folin who is 26 years-old, and has done nothing of note in the NHL aside from getting murdered in the shot-attempt department (relative to teammates), and provide no offense 5v5, over the past two seasons.

Not saying we should sign everyone here but these would be my main targets:

Goal (sign 1)

1. Condon
2. Nilsson

Defense (sign 1 or 2)

1. Brendan Smith
2. Kevin Shattenkirk (depending on term length)
3. Christian Folin
4. Joe Morrow

Center

1. Mikhail Grigorenko
2. Jordan Weal

Wings

1. Ryan White
2. Joe Cramarossa

On Shattenkirk--just read an article by Jack McKenna and it's not that he didn't make some good points but he said Alex Pietrangelo was inferior to Shattenkirk and I had to laugh at that. I wouldn't want to go more than 4 years with him. He's not an elite player and paying him long term like he is an elite player is a bad idea.

I like the idea of going after Grigorenko a lot.

On White and Cramarossa--see them as 4th liners who can play 10 minutes a game or so and bring some physical play and edge. The team has been a vanilla team and could use more push back. Cramarossa is 24 and IMO could be another Prust. White always gives good effort and always plays a hard game.

I don't know how many Kampfers a team needs. I doubt Folin can crack the top 6

Also, the fact that this organization values Kampfer over Clendening is such a mind-boggling thing. The perfect micro view of a macro problem.

Why can't we ever properly evaluate defense? Kampfer sucked in the AHL last year.

God, I hate the Rangers

But he had a few points in his games up....
Must be first pairing talent.

Condon isn't very good, i don't like him as a target at all, Nilsson is very good though.

Folin and Morrow are very meh, go after a guy like Postma instead, Wiercioch could be good depth aswell.

Love your 2 C's, i'd add Burmistrov as #3 too.

Don't like ur wingers, White is a goon, a bad goon. Nestrasil and Yakupov are good targets imo.
