Was thinking the same, sans the Galchenyuk acquisition.

Yakupov on the 4th line in sheltered minutes and occasional PP usage could be a nice add. 2-3 year deal at minimal $$.

Low risk, high reward kind of player.

Waste of money.

AV would bury Yakupov so hard his grandchildren will come out of the womb stuck to a bench.

There's no point in getting Yakupov unless you're willing to play him in the top six with talented players who can work around his massive deficiencies and play to his talents

Yaks is not a priority for me, but he did just fine this season on the Blues 3rd line with good but typical 3rd line players (usually Paajarvi and Lehtera)

Rangers have done well with the (kinda) high upside reclamation projects, keep the trend going, grab atleast one of the young Russian UFAs to be.

A few observations in the aftermath of the Stepan trade and draft day -

1). Stepan was traded for a variety of reasons, but the biggest and most overlooked reason was that Gorton was targeting Pettersson. There were numerous accounts of the Rangers trying to trade up to Dallas' spot a #3. He needed the pick at 7 to have a chance at trading to #3. The fallout from this leads to...

2) Ryan McDonagh is going nowhere. It was well known that Dallas was willing to part with the pick at #3 for a top 4 Dman. Gorton wasn't willing to part with McDonagh no matter how much he coveted Pettersson.

3) Kevin Hayes is the 2nd line center until he proves otherwise. The Rangers didn't demand a 2nd line center in a return for Stepan. They feel comfortable enough with Hayes as 2nd line center to not make getting a center back a priority.

Grigorenko sounds like a good option. He's sure to be sought after. Does he come here for less than 2.5

What makes you think he'd be that sought after? He's a pure reclamation project, i very much doubt he gets over $1.5m from anyone.

His QO was right around $1.5m FYI

Well they loved him in his draft year, but ya gotta wonder how much they like him now. That being said, he's worth a 1 year deal if he's willing to come cheap.

Yeah, i'm talking a reclamation "prove it" 1 year contract here :) We love those guys, we've been pretty successful with them aswell.

He's young, big, put up 20+ points, and now he's a UFA.

His perception around the league is that he's a bust though, fair or not but that's the perception, he'll get a prove it deal.

Maybe a team gives him 2 years but he's not getting over $2m, i'd easily bet on that.

Yeah he's definitely worth a look at that price. Can play wing or center, so let him and Miller fight it out over that 3C spot.

I was mostly thinking that 4C role to start with him bumping himself up if he plays well.

1)) Not disputing that the Rangers had Pettersson ahead of Andersson but I think it was Brooks who wrote that the Rangers wanted Makar at 3.

Teams can bottom out for a year and rebound. Folks like to point out the failed rebuilds in different cities, but this team doesn't have to strip it all down and tank for 1st overall picks. Anaheim bottomed out in 2012 and added Lindholm. They made the playoffs the following year, then Lindholm suited up for them the year after and has been a workhorse ever since.

This draft is shaping up to be a very, very good one. The Rangers could get a kid in the top-10 who could step in very quickly and make an impact. They drafted this year with the goal of getting kids who will make the jump quickly.

Allucks posted that from the people he spoke to who were at the draft, the Rangers were hot and heavy for Pettersson. Edge also said the Rangers were prepared to go Alli. For the player they wanted at 3.

Theres no room for Yakupov.

If the teams plan is to compete then Replacing Stepan and the role he played with Yakupov is a disaster. And yes i know it wouldnt go down exactly like that, it would be Miller sliding back to Center and getting PK time which I am not ok with. I really like Miller but im not high on his game when it comes to the defensive side of the puck.

They need a veteran.
