I don't know whether to believe anything Brooks says...

He said there was "no movement" on Stepan to AZ.. and he was traded 2 hours later. so...

What do people think Gagner is realistically going to cost as a UFA?

A lot more considering how few centers are available. Supply low, demand medium to high considering the cap raised a bit.

I'd wager 4 x 4.5, maybe 4x5.

Unfortunately NYR find themselves short on pivots in a time when there are few on the market.

1. does Nyquist play center?

2. Would Detroit who is rebuilding clearly, trade him being that he's 27?

It's also need ... we aren't in the market for a 2 or 3 C ... we are in the middle for a 1 and a 4 ... very polar opposites.

Why do we need to spend our cap space? If the players aren't there on the market that will make us cup contenders, why not save ourselves bad contracts and wait until players who will make us cup contenders are on the market or we need to pay our own players? We could also use younger players than this season, and develop a younger team, something that could really help us out in 3 or 4 years. Should we just give up on the development of Bereglazov, Graves, Pionk?

Unless we sign Joe, or trade for a top-6 Center, I'd almost just rather let Miller play C. If this is a transition type of season then let's see where Zib, Hayes, and Miller stand.

We don't have to spend our cap space unless they do something about the center position (what I have no idea?). I would lock Zibanejad up long term on a team friendly deal, and look to do the same thing for Skjei.

I'm ok with that plan, but then I want to explore what I can get for Nash and Mac.

and...

Zucc
Grabner
Holden.

heck, maybe even Lundqvist at retained money.

a rebuild should mean absolutely no one over 26 is exempt from being traded IMO.

This is the Rangers, I think we all deep down believe no rebuild is coming and they'll find some way whether via trade/FA both to fill the cap space.

Yep! I think we are also sort of in a weird bubble because it's NYC. Look at the Yankees ....they were in the 'we are always in it because we need to sell seats' mentality which put them in mediocrity for a decade.

JT will never become a ufa. players like that never do. he will either sign an 8 year extension with the isles or he'll get traded and sign there. after that deal is over is when we can overpay him for the downside of his career.

i'm really down on hayes right now but i think there is little doubt that we go into the year with zib & hayes as the top 2 centers, we'll sign someone to be the 3C and insurance but we need zib and hayes to step up. its time to see what you have there

and to be fair, Rangers have a lot more talent than the Yankees did when the Yankees decided they needed to take the plunge and sell off.

Rangers have a lot of good players, they are just missing that one top offensive 1C really.

Doubt it because he likely doesn't get taken anyway.

JG said he spoke to Klein 10 days ago and they were going to speak again soon. Sounds like hes seriously considering hanging them up.

I'd believe it, he looked significantly injured all year.

I am a bit more pessimistic about the Rangers chance to be a contender next year with all the progress made by the other teams in the east. Unless we trade for a Mckinnon type without gutting the team its going to be difficult. I keep looking over the rosters of other teams trying to see who we can trade for and the pickings are slim. I dont mind the Step trade cause we went as far as we could with him. Its not easy getting top tier talent and this is the Rangers problem.
