I just wish a players play would be the indicator of ice time ... not "who I like" or "who has more experience or a higher salary" ... play the BEST team you can. Ice time should be the motivator ... if it isn't ... then get the guy off the team.

For the most part with many coaches it is with a few exceptions. Coaches feel a lot of pressure to win games. They usually go with the guys they feel on that day are the best choice. That doesn't mean they are always the right choice. Coaches do make mistakes at times. Sometimes they are too close to the game and miss the big picture. There is one coach (I will not name) that at times has wanted the story to be about him and his style of game but most coaches just want to win. Their jobs, reputation, and $$$ are on the line.

I do not think AV was thrilled by the Stepan trade. It wasn't because because he loved Stepan personally. I think it was because he felt like he did not get back a better player. AV needs to win.

I'm sorry, i underestimated just how much cap space we have after the Stepan trade, damn :D

Still want no part of Bonino though.

I agree! I have no interest in Bonino or for that matter any free agent at 3 million + as a 3rd or 4th line center. But the concept remains the same. We really do have ALOT of cap space following the moves that have been made so far. It truly is possible to sign Shattenkirk + Smith and pay Staal 5.7 million to be a 3rd pair defenseman on this team next season which is just crazy.

Just read that

Dallas
Maple Leafs
Tampa bay

Will be in the market for Defenseman--I could see Holden or Klein if he doesn't retire on any of those rosters. Although most are looking for more of an upgrade.

Staal to Dallas would be nice but I doubt it.

By the way Nashville is looking for a top 6 winger to replace Neal--does R Nash not make one of the best replacements.

Nash with 1.5-2 million for maybe Wilson and one of their kids ?

yeah but why leave islanders to go play in vegas .

He would be leaving islanders cause he feels they aren't building team correctly to compete

Agree, I think it's a big if. I can't see him leaving them nor the Islanders fumbling the deal, especially if they need to sell the fans another new stadium in the next few years

Staal at this point isn't going anywhere. There's no pressing need for cap space so they'll ride it out one more year until his NMC turns into a limited NTC and go from there.

Montreal and Edmonton also need D men.

What's the deal with burying a guy in the A nowadays? Understand that can't happen with an NMC, but what about an NTC? Just give this guy the Redden treatment and be done with it.

If CBJ get a top 6 center + Islanders make a deal for Matt Duchene, Pittsburgh will continue Pittsburghing, NJ and PHI are developing some good young players ... are we regressing?

I'd have interest in Kovalchuk, but its a moot point, the devils are not trading him to us, Brooks is insane.
