Absofreakinglutely. The team's going younger. We just traded our 26 y.o. #1C. So, our 28 y.o. #1D is off limits? Especially when they have a kid already groomed and ready to take his place? Doesn't make sense.

Yes, we are not winning a Cup within the next two years anyway. And I would be pretty weary of signing McDonagh to a big long term contract with the amount of games he has played and the style he plays, he's always beat up.

Nothing about Hayes' play in this past season has shown me that he has "progressed." He disappeared for half of the season, and that was with third line duties.

Sure, he can put up points. That's great. But when you disappear for half the season and still look like crap even when you're putting up points, that doesn't mean you are "progressing" and can handle 2C duties.

No way.

I don't know about that.

He's been ready for 2nd pair duty for a while now,but feeding him to the wolves wouldn't be wise.

Then again, it depends entirely on the return. If Hamonic returns a 1st in 2018 and 2 2nds, McDonagh should return a package with double the value.

McDonagh for Chabot and Brown or White would be an ideal trade. OTT lost their only good defender outside of Karlsson and should be doing whatever it takes to get back to the ECF and beyond in EK's prime.

I'm not a huge Hayes fan but we can't give him a sophomore slump benefit for at least a quarter of next season?

That was his third full year. He's an absolute drag on his linemates and needs to be carried around. A lot of his success came from Grabner and Miller doing the heavy lifting. Don't get me wrong, I love his blend of size and skill, but the dude is slow both physically and mentally. He overthinks plays with the puck too much. I won't even go into his playoff ineptitude.

McDonagh for Draisail makes the Oilers significantly worse. Who plays RW for them? They don't even have Eberle anymore as guaranteed RW production.

It'll be something involving Puljujarvi, 2018 1st, Benning, Caggiaula, etc.

It wont be anything because McDonagh is not being traded, let alone to Edmonton

2nd round pick & 3rd round pick for Brassard (2 year contract) if we can not find another center.

Laugh all you want but there is great logic to bringing him. What are you seriously *****ing about? Who is in the pipeline that he is blocking? You talk like theres some magical trade to bring in a 22-24 year old center ready to play in the top 6. Thornton would be a stopgap until Andersson and Chyil are ready.

But go ahead give Mac away for Trouba. Because thats not laughable at all...

I'm with you on Thornton, actually. If we can get him for two years at $4 mil, make him our third line Center, absolutely. Perfect stopgap for two years while we rebuild on the fly.

There are so many moving pieces right now, a lot can happen. If Zibby, Kreider, Hayes, Miller and Buch all step up (some more than others), if Skjei and Deangelo kill it on D, and Hank has a bounce back year, man...there could be worse things than having Thornton on that third line.

But I could also see us taking major steps back and being a borderline playoff team or miss. Everything is in play right now.

I didn't want to start a whole thread on this, but can we just offer sheet Oscar Lindberg? He wouldn't make a ton and the way McPhee is stockpiling futures, he may just take the 2nd or 3rd rounder we'd have to give up. Would it be worth it? Is there a rule against doing that die to the expansion draft?
