"Give away"? Are you serious? You're acting like Trouba is some throwaway player.

And youre acting like Trouba is some player he has proven yet to be for what you are willing to trade which is the captain of this team who lines up against the oppositions best forwards night in and night out. Gimme a break

I think we maybe don't need to look for a 1C right now. The plan is for Zibanejad to keep progressing. The team is retooling and, frankly, I don't think a retooling team can afford to hedge against young players NOT taking the next step.

Zibanejad 1C. Buchnevich every day top 6. Perhaps Miller takes one more step. Perhaps Hayes takes one more step. Vesey too.

The reason the team "overachieved" last year is because players progressed. Again, when the team is retooling, that's what you're looking for.

So, what I think they should be in the market for is a middle 6 C, but preferably a 2C level player. Anisimov is a somewhat interesting trade target.

Anisimov makes a shocking amount of sense for the reasons that you stated. Also he cap hit is only 4.55 and he would probably be a good guy to have around Buchnevich. You get an established player back who can handle New York and won't hurt the cap situation at all.

It makes zero sense for Chicago to move him though.

Is it kind of crazy that I wouldn't mind being sort of terrible next season? Hope Nash has a great year to max his trade value at the deadline, and see what we can get in the draft? Have a couple 1st's again, to keep the farm growth up. Get set for 18-19 or 19-20? Not really burn it down, but keep regenerating?

They need the cap space from letting Nash expire. They are still in win now. Nash replaces Hossa and they use their young C's.

Maybe Kruger, Schmaltz and late 1st makes sense; but Kruger is also a guy that was rumored to have been attached to TVR just to dump him. He has negative value. Nash is the best rental asset on the market.

This is why I think cap space is Gorton's best asset.

It'd be nice to see a couple moves like that. I'd be fine with experimenting with Miller as the 2/3C and rolling Kruger on the 4th line. Treat next season as a proving ground and see if Zibanejad can take that step forward we all thought he could. If he hits his potential, then the Rangers have solved their 1C problem and they can see if Hayes or Miller is viable on that 2nd line.

What happened to Kruger going to Vegas anyway?

Nope, makes perfect sense to me. Gives another full year to better evaluate where Hayes, Miller, Vesey and Buch fit within the top 6 (if they fit at all), let's us better understand if Zib is #1 or 2 centre and just how good Skjei can be. Also gives our new 1st rounders a season in Europe playing major minutes in good leagues to further evaluate where they'll fit in the NHL and how long they'll need before getting there.
You take those answers into the TDL, draft and FA in the next 12 months and come out with a better rounded team

Would be interesting to see the Rangers get involved here. Absorb one of Niemi or Lethonen and get a prospect from Dallas as well? They could tandem either of them with Hank and try and save him for the next season.

Additionally, I could see Nash being really appealing for Dallas. Especially with Hitch taking over.

They need Anisimov more than they need the cap space.

I would gladly absorb Kruger for 2 years if it meant getting back some nice pieces.

Nash @ 50% for Lehtonen and Faksa :)

Can we try to pry Seguin?

I don't know if I agree with that but Kruger is just so bad. The 1st they would demand would be very late and I don't know if the Blackhawks have a second piece that I would take either. I would think Chicago would rather replace Anisimov with Schmaltz; it's not like they have Panarin anymore for that line's chemistry. And then they try to dump Kruger in a minor deal elsewhere.

Two league sources said Pat Brisson, Duchene’s agent (also the agent for John Tavares), is seriously unhappy with Sakic’s foot-dragging on a deal. That could lead to a reduced price tag later on should Snow still be interested.

Like I have been saying all along ... Joe is doing about as bad of a job as you can. He's throwing Matt's name out there (now for 2 years in a row) and causing tension. He's hot and cold because he doesn't know what to do with deals and there's no direction on this franchise. Call it what you will, but this is about to blow up in his face.

That 1st would be one in whats being billed as an epic draft.

I don't think they'd give up the 1st. I'd take a 2nd in 2018 and DeBrincat though.

I have some doubts about how good the Blackhawks will be next year. Without replacement, they're currently without a key forward and a key defenseman. Will they make more moves? Probably. As it stands though, I don't know how good they are anymore.

I'm not taking that return. Even if 2018 is epic, that pick will be 25 or later. Not going to be that epic. I'd rather have Anisimov

did Sam bennett play wing or center in CGY? he would be an option that could be had probably not for much.. he's young, higher draft pick that hasn't hit the ground running.. low risk high reward..

miller-bennett-mza let them fly

They are going to try to rebuild on the fly like the Rangers are, but Kane and Toews are enough to keep them relevant. They move Kruger in a minor deal, like they were trying to do anyway. They replace Anisimov with Schmaltz and let Kane elevate him, and suddenly Chicago is in great position to reload in the summer. They also have good internal assets. I think it is very fair for both teams.

If you can absorb more contrct, you get a better asset.

I don't exactly think the Hawks would be likely to trade both of Kane's linemates in the same offseason.

Nailed it. Retooling teams expect their younger players to step up. Rangers see Ziba as a #1C and Hayes as #2C. Miller and Buch as top-6. Rangers are giving them a chance to steup up and prove their worth. Don't want Thornton or anyone like that.

I will be dumbfounded if Hayes plays well as our 2C next season.

I would love for it to happen, but I can't see it.

I would love for Gorton to trade Staal for Lehtonen or Niemi.
