If we have no luck finding a #1 center would it be nuts to ask Ottawa about Brassard? He only has 2 years left on his deal. Cap hit of 5 mill. Ottawa may be willing to move his contract.

Am I missing something? Why is CHI trading their 2nd line center?

I forgot the "legal tampering" period starts tomorrow..

How stupid is that? why not just make FA the same day?

In theory, trading Nash to Chicago could be a good move, depending on the return

Depends on if they deem themselves contenders next season

They clearly are trying to get out of the Kruger contract, he isn't going to light the world on fire but he is a solid 3/4C.

Kruger + Schmaltz for Nash retained

Chicago gets no immediate cap savings, but they get out of Krugers contract, and get another good player to help them push for a cup

Kruger isn't good enough for Nash.

Anisimov because Rangers 2C. Nash replaces Hossa (they are the same player) and then they get the cap relief (that they need more than anything else) in the summer.

I doubt it. And he injured his shoulder again I think. I think that ship has sailed b

I can't think of too many teams that have a top line center, or probably top line center to spare that would also need someone like McDonagh. Buffalo and Reinhart is the only one that jumps out at me, but I don't think he ever materializes as a really quality 1C.

Why not just absorb Kruger's contract with additional picks, and the maximize Nash's value in a different deal? I don't see a cap-strapped team as a landing spot for Nash.

But the Rangers believe Hayes will be their 2C, according to what Gorton said yesterday. So if we take him at his word, they will be looking for a 3C

And Kruger is just a cap dump in that deal that happens to be a decent center. Schmaltz is the real asset

Reinhart is the same player as Galchenyuk. I am not high on him at all. Their secondary pieces are not attractive either.

I just don't see Hayes as a 2C at this point. Nothing from last season makes me think he's ready for top 6 minutes on this team.

Because Anisimov is good and Kruger is not good. Anisimov is also fairly paid for his role.

well that's not entirely true, there were times that he looked really good in all 3 zones and was even performing on the PK,, then he looked like trash at times so who knows.

I actually like that idea. Kruger is considerably overpaid, but only has two years left on his deal and the Rangers could use a 4C.

I think Hayes could produce quite well offensively with consistent top 6 minutes. He had dreadful defensive numbers last year, but I am hoping that was just an anomaly

Regardless, the team seems to be under the impression he can handle it. Again, I'm just basing that off what they said yesterday.

Marcus Kruger is probably one of the best defensive forwards in all of hockey but the dude is god damn worthless offensively.

He's expensive for what he is and I don't really want him for that. Need to sweeten that deal especially if we're retaining.

I think we maybe don't need to look for a 1C right now. The plan is for Zibanejad to keep progressing. The team is retooling and, frankly, I don't think a retooling team can afford to hedge against young players NOT taking the next step.

Zibanejad 1C. Buchnevich every day top 6. Perhaps Miller takes one more step. Perhaps Hayes takes one more step. Vesey too.

The reason the team "overachieved" last year is because players progressed. Again, when the team is retooling, that's what you're looking for.

So, what I think they should be in the market for is a middle 6 C, but preferably a 2C level player. Anisimov is a somewhat interesting trade target. Paul Stastny? RNH? The problem with both of those guys is that neither fits the speed speed speed thing we want.
