Now this, this could potentially be concerning

You just traded away your 1C for futures. The guy conceivably poised to replace him should be signed long term

If they don't lock Zibanejad up long term, the offseason will be a bust. Sign him now, long term, with a lower cap hit. Bridging him just brings up the price later. You have the space to do it

I agree with that. Make Zib your guy you are going to war with for the next 7Y. Sign him to something cap friendly.

I think we'll sign a 3C, and bring up someone to play 4C.
Let Deangelo develop in the top 4 with skjei

probably trade Nash at the deadline.
Simple plays.

They can do all that and still rebuild and getting big time returns from Mcd and Zucc. the garden wont be empty, people will still pay.. look at the Knicks..

Yep. Right now we're a bubble team. Hank not playing like playoff Hank, even with an improved D corps? We're not making the dance or squeaking in and leaving early.

I'm ok with this. We can definitely turn it around quickly. Especially with good drafting and a potential star goalie in Igor.

I will look but anything over a 30 second look will cost you $300 an hour. :D

NO! I'm sorry but if we are trading Stepan and upgrading to a 'grit' guy ... that is not our answer. We have no Crosby, no Malkin, No Kane, no Toews, no McDavid, no Ovi, no Tavares, etc. I'm sorry but I just don't think keep grinding with mid level guys is the key to beating Pittsburgh. You need high end talent. We disagree on philosophy. Look, I like Bonino, but if you think he's your answer to beating Pittsburgh and winning a cup, I think you're crazy lol.

Dude...I never said Bonino is the be all end all. And I never said Bonino "by himself" is the answer to beating Pittsburgh. You should read a little more carfeully....hah

What I did say is that Bonino could be a good replacement for Stepan who was also far from an elite center but for our team, he was quite valuable. Bonino could be that as well if we sign him.

What I also said was that adding a Bonino for just plain old cash(no player assets given up which is a positive) to join a center group of Mika, Hayes let's just say Nieves or Andersson for now tho I think Gorton will add a UFA 4C as well makes us pretty solid there. Add a Shatty and BSmith to the mix and Hank playing with a chip on his shoulder to prove that last year's poor year from him was a fluke, yeah, I do think we'd be improved over last year and would give the Penguins a damn good run for their money.

That is what I said....:)

Right, if you're going to rebuild ... do it the right way. Mac would get you a superstar and picks.

After this draft where so many people complained about our draft picks we want to trade our only legitimate top 50 skater for more draft picks? I think I will pass. I might trade him for Makinnon or Kane but not more draft picks.

I'd do 5x7. He's so dang young.

At 7 years, it's going to take more than 5 mil per. If we could do 7 years @ 5.5 - 6, that would be a good deal. 7 years takes him to age 31 and we can trade him a year or 2 before that.

Bingo

Sign him for 6-7 years. He is 24 right now

6-7 years takes him to when he is 30-31. Most guys are exiting their prime at that age. You will have gotten the best out of him by then, and drafted and developed his replacement

It's a no brainer

I think a 7Y deal would be fine with me. His contract ends right at his prime (30/31) ... and maybe you leave a team option in there to extend the deal if he produces like a star?

That's my point, I would deal him for a MacKinnon or a Kane + some picks. I think there's definitely a package that can be built.

That is where we disagree. You are trying to look at this as the sum of the whole is more important then the pieces themselves. If we do this we are moving laterally at best. You don't move Stepan and put Zib at #1 and Hayes at #2 and say you've improved.

Which is why you should ponder the idea of trading away Mac, Nash, Zucc, and even Hank (if he waives) ... if you're at best a bubble team who can win a round ... what good is that? Treading water does not equate to success.

Ya see you are the one looking at this the wrong way IMO. So long as we improve the sieve like backend that we had last year which would mean signing a Shatty and re-signing a B Smith. Them two along with the addition of DeAngelo improves that back end dramatically.

You add Bonino to the mix, even with no Stepan maybe you add a Boyle as a #4 type, consiering how talented the rest of our team still is, it's a no brainer our team is quite a bit improved over last year. Stepan as much as I loved him as a player, let's be honest, blew chunks last year. Him not being here is not going to be the reason we wouldn't make the playoffs. Stepan not being replaced by a reasonable facsimilie which is what Bonino would be and not addressing our back end would be the reason we wouldn't be a contender.

Seeing Gorton has shown he knows his **** and I trust his eval skills very much, I have complete confidence Rangers will be much much better than a bubble team and very likely be better than last year which interestingly alot of peeps like you also said would be a bubble team.

Peeps in here aren't taking into account the advances that a Buch or Vesey could make this upcoming season. Maybe Miller and Hayes take an even bigger leap than they both did last year despite their falling to earth by end of season and in the playoffs.

We are only at 6/24. Let's see where we are at after UFA starts before we draw any conclusions...sound good?...:)

Tavares will be a free agent in one season. Islanders haven't improved, they've lost their second best defenseman. They balked at the price for Duchene, Tavares is supposedly waiting to see what the Islanders will do.

Tavares could stay in NY by signing with the Rangers. We could offer him a lot of money. He's one of the best players in the NHL. He'd immediately make us a Cup Contender. Don't ****ing sign Kevin Shattenkirk, Brendan Smith, Joe Thornton this season. Dumb, dumb, dumb. Try to sign Tavares next season. If not, don't use the cap space, and tank.

Tavares or bust? There's more than one way to win a cup.
