The thought is we trade with Dallas and one of the two fall to us.

In that case, I agree its a possibility. Would probably require NJ to not be able to trade down, which they are trying to do, and instead deciding to take Makar at 1. Philly is taking a forward at 2, they have a lot of defensemen already.

Its possible, but I would guess like 15% chance that would happen.

I think if we are trading up, its for Makar, Heiskanen, Vilardi, Glass or Pettersson.

15% chance we get a 1st overall caliber player? I like it.

Would MUCH rather have Glass/Petersson/Necas than trade all that for Patrick or Hischier

I'll keep saying this...

I will bet a ton of money that Glass/Pettersson/Suzuki end up as better pros than Patrick and Hischier.

NHL ready factor is so overrated.

If they're moving up, they better not be stupid and I'd only do it for Makar.

I don't think anyone is speculating we trade, I think it's overly optimistic, but they might just take Makar at 1.

Dreger mentioned us in a tweet like 20 minutes ago.

They could take Makar at 1, I agree, but I think the assumption was always if they decide that they want Makar, they will move down. If they can't move down, are they taking Makar over Patrick or Hischier? I don't know.

I don't really want Makar. We have a fix for our defense and we need a center now. If not Nico or Nolan then I want Glass.

Devils pick Makar
Flyers pick Patrick
Dallas trades to NYR and we select Nico

Pipe dream obviously. NJ would probably trade down if they plan to take Makar.

People always say "just trade down" like it is some easy thing. It isn't at all. Draft picks in the top 10 have specific point value that needs to be met. You don't "just trade down." A lot of times there is no dance partner and you have to select a guy a few spots higher than projected because he is who you want.

I think most teams would give up their 2nd to swap 1sts with the Devils. Now they would just have to find someone who would pick in a spot where Makar would still be available. Not easy, but that pick would be a hot commodity.

Devils need defenss. Makar stock is soaring. Would not be surprised to see him go. Then we make a deal with Dallas at the draft right there. #7 + #21 for #3 and their 3rd.

Hasn't all the smoke around Dallas moving #3 been around getting an NHL player right now.

I don't think the picks do much for them unless they're going to package them back out for a player.

He's managed to make this team worse than the Isles in one fell swoop..

That's a bit dramatic. He moved a lot of cap. I think he's clearly planning to fix the defense via free agency.

Wait until after free agency before calling for his head.

Would Dallas trade us one of their goalies and #3 for #7?

Move back 4 spots to get rid of one of their goalies? Maybe, but I'd lean toward no. Both only have 1 year left. I would do it if we don't need the cap space elsewhere.

Yeah? Rangers wouldn't. Makar is going Top 6. You don't trade down while wanting a specific player unless you are sure he will still be on the board. Who gives them that 2nd? Dallas? Van? Col? Vegas? Nope. They all need the picks and young guys and is not worth it.
