Saving cap space for Tavares is about the only reason I'd hold off on signing Shattenkirk. But with Nash coming off the books next year I'm not that concerned.

Move Staal too and its not even an issue.

Staal can either be bought out or traded at 50% retention. Nash's $7.8M comes off the books next season. There's your Tavares money

What is Gorton gonna do? Tell a young kid on national production that he sucks and isn't a top 6 player when he just put up 50? I don't think he is a Top 6 C either, but you just don't do that. You say you liek the guys you got and you believe in them. Jesus, some of you want to just put these guys through the ringer for no reason; it isn't a postgame conference with the coach holding a player accountable for a bad play or something.

What is he supposed to say? "Oh Christ we better get another C, right? I mean look at the guys we have!"? Everyone and their mother knows the Rangers will be in the market for, at the very least, a legit top 9 C now.

Relax. Take it with a grain of salt.

God dam thank you

Is there a Nolan Patrick in next year's draft though?

He's a stud. He's not McDavid/Eichel but he's right there at the next tier, right?

I don't know where you are getting your info, but I think he's at least a tier or two below Eichel/Matthews level.

Probably like 6-10 range in the 2016 draft. 2018 draft looking like it'll have a bunch of players better than Patrick.

Taking a step back and looking at this, who would have ever thought Deangelo was the target... Gorton is super tight lipped, its' getting annoying lol

Does this change Zibs asking price?

I think we probably have some idea of a center in mind.

Pirri could even be brought back as a 4th line center option temporarily if needed.

I am going to keep posing this, but Marcus Kruger is a proven commodity. He's overpaid for sure.

If Chicago was to dump him with an asset, considering the Rangers have all of this cap space, would anyone take him for a couple of years over, say Boyle? Considering their age differences and the fact Boyle will most likely get 4 years and around $2.5m vs Krugers 3.083m

I'm just a bit weary of Gorton with some of the trades he's made over the years.

Vegas probably wants to trade up to take Patrick because of Kelly McCrimmon

We will play for it and I like our chance win a flawed but young and enthusiastic roster more than the same old anyway. But we are flawed with a 1-2 punch of Zib/Hayes? So what, did anyone see how extremely flat our top lines were WITH Stepan in the POs?? Stepan has 20 points in his last 36 PO games.

It's not like we would have been favorites to win the Cup with Stepan. Realistically, next season we would have been ranked around 12-15 for next season with Stepan by a pretty unanimous expert crew. That is barely contender range.

I don't know much about Deangelo, and if he bombs it was a worthless trade unles we get a steal with the 7. But if he can come in and contribute in a top 4, it was a great move for the future. Just 1-2 years down the line.

So in short: We need to upgrade our killing instinct offensively? Damn right. And that was certainly the case before this trade too.

He's made one bad trade as GM, and I feel personally that that happened due to pressure from above.

And I think we come out on top with the Stepan trade down the road.
