So you'd rather we make a deal, even if it's a bad deal, because other teams are doing stuff?

I don't think he was saying that but for a team pretty clearly on the back-side of their window one would think management would be aggressive enough to find a deal for someone. Nash. Zuccarello. Stepan. Kreider. Staal. Holden. Raanta. None of these guys are going to move?

No, its not.

This team needs big changes. It'll continue to be mediocre, otherwise.

That's my guess as well.

We will sit back and do nothing as other teams in the Metro continue to get even stronger. Cool.

Too many high risks. Apparently getting younger is doing nothing but using your draft picks

We aren't going to make any trades.

Did I just get warped back to 2016? Same exact things being said because there wasn't a slew of trades. Then what happened? We got Zibanejad. Patience people, patience.

So you'd rather we make a deal, even if it's a bad deal, because other teams are doing stuff?

I know right? They would take the 7th + Crouse and call it a day because other teams have made deals, when in reality, that would be a bad deal for us.

Not really. This team outplayed and dominated the sens who were one goal away from reaching the cup finals. And this was with Girardi, and staal playing top minutes.
Replace Girardi with Shattenkirk on top pairing and boom the team is a contender

That is the other thing. If I had the time (which I don't), I would go through every roster building thread, every player discussion thread, every GDT and PGT, and pull out the thousands of posts stating how Girardi and Glass are holding this team back. Girardi. Glass. Glass. Girardi. Glass. Girardi.

Both are gone and people still complain. Nothing is good enough.

None of them need to move today. People need to learn to be patient.

Again all we can hope is that guys like skjei and buch and vesey get better. Guys like bereglazov and graves get better.
We are seeing how hard it is to make a trade and how many gm's are trying to rob Gorton blind.
It was inevitable teams like the flyers and islanders and jackets get better. They've been garbage for so long they've built up enough young assets and youth. And really only the flyers scare me going forward. If they play it right they should be the best team in the division in 3-4 years but then again it's the flyers .

I don't recall saying that.

It was implied. Gorton is very clearly trying to make deals, but hasn't found one he likes yet. If he had, he would have taken it. The implication is that the only offers he's gotten are bad ones from his perspective. You are clearly upset that the Rangers haven't done anything while other teams are getting better, so what else am I to think but that you'd rather take a bad deal than no deal at all?

There are still 8 1/2 hours before the draft starts and another 7 1/2 days before free agency starts, and even then, that only affects Stepan. Brass was traded for Zib on July 18th.

So status quo is buying out someone who played nearly 1000 games on this team and was an alternate captain?

Status quo was signing Pionk, Bereglazov and Pedrie to try and get younger on defense?

If anything happens, the Rangers will trade after free agency begins. That's their track record. Nash trade was after July 1. Zibanejad was too.

Unless they are getting draft selections of the player (Talbot, Hagelin) they don't usually make a player for player transaction until a team becomes desperate.

Sather before and Gorton now have that track record. Don't be surprised if that's the same thing that would happen with another player this offseason. Teams get desperate to get better now and a market will open and narrow down when other free agents fill in the gaps on teams.

Gorton hasn't given you a reason to not have confidence. This is just you wanting to complain.

I've laid out the reasons, really poor deadline moves, got basically nothing for Talbot, got little for Hagelin, hasn't upgraded the right side of the defense, etc.

They aren't fake reasons. You might disagree, but lets not act like a team that has went backwards the last two years in results is a team thats undisputedly going in the right direction.

I actually have full confidence in Gorton. Some solid trades, but more importantly good use of UDFA signings that everyone seems to take for granted after they happen.

I can't really think of any bad moves he's made. And that includes extending Vigneault.

Based on results alone, they actually improved this year compared to last year.

Putting things on him that didn't happen under his watch, nice.

And they went from losing in the 1st round to losing in the 2nd. That isn't backwards. Im worried that they may spin their wheels because the FO overvalues certain guys, but lets not act like his short resume here is filled with failures. Almost everything hes done over the last calendar year has been positive.

While you're not wrong to think this way. I was disappointed in those returns as well for Talbot and Hagelin. But you need to realize trading requires a partner. It's hard to criticize the man, when those very well may have been the best offers available.
I am sure he was pressing Dallas on Talbot, and Dallas is the one who held out and didn't pony up which looking back I am sure they regret with how well Talbot played since the trade.

Staal trade is really the only blunder that Gorton has done.
