It's been an honor watching Ola become unhinged with you gents the last few weeks.

On a more important note:

I am much more skeptical of a Stepan trade today than I was a week ago

Gorton isn't dumb enough to trade for E. Kane...

right guys? RIGHT!?

Pretty sure Dreger doesn't know who is in on Kane and is just listing teams that are regularly in the playoffs/top of the regular season standings.

Doubt the Rangers are in on Kane.

The Rangers are in a win now mode???? McKenzie mentioned transitioning to a younger team. Elliotte Friedman mentioned the Rangers going younger. I saw EJ Hradek on the NHL network yesterday say the Rangers are going to be a younger team next season. They bought out Girardi and expects them to make other moves to get younger.

We were in win now mode last offseason and we ended up trading Brassard for Zibanejad. I don't think it's as much of a win now as it is re-tooling on the fly by getting younger and remaining competitive.

The Rangers are the most enigmatic team in the NHL considering we're the most valuable franchise in the league according to the last Forbes ranking. Friedman and McKenzie are the only ones that have a sense of what the franchise is doing. Dan Rosen is NY based so he knows what's happening as well I think.

Kane for Staal.

Well, that's different. :D

Also, the Rangers are pretty much always in win-now mode to some degree so all this talk of getting younger and whatever is just trying to cut some fat so they can remain competitive. Henrik is still a Ranger, and I'm sure the FO thinks this team has a good enough core with a few adjustments, to win.

I think step gets dealt today just before or at the draft. I don't think Lindbergh has anything to do with him getting dealt at all.

The arizona situation has to do with a power struggle and Chaka Kahn won.

Why the hell would the Rangers want ANOTHER winger...

If we are trading Nash, Kane would make sense as a replacement, especially if we can find a way to trade Staal for Kane. How about Nash @ 50% + Staal for Kane and a pick/prospect? Buffalo is under the cap floor right now. Georges is in his last year and he'll be 34 when his next contract starts. Are they re-signing him? Kulikov and Franson are both UFAs this year. Are either going back? They traded for Beaulieu, so they've got Georges, McCabe and Beaulieu on the left side, Risto and Bogo on the right...Falk as the 7th.

Maybe the deal is Nash @ 50% + Staal for Kane + Georges. I would do that.

The cap hits would be 3.9 + 5.7 for 5.25 + 3.9

We would only clear 450k unless Buffalo agrees to take on more of Nash's contract, but we'd be rid of Staal and have a good, young replacement for Nash.

Kane may be a headcase, but he's talented. He's 25 years old and has 1 year left on his contract. If he doesn't work out, we can trade his RFA rights next summer. Hell, we can even buy him out this year if we want, as the cap penalty would be very low.

Some of you are saying XXXX for Staal as a joke and then some of you are totally serious about trading Staal in a package for a nice return as if Staal has value with that contract of his. I'm sure Gorton explored the ocean floor to find a trading partner for Girardi and Staal over the last few years and yet we had to buyout Girardi. There's nothing out there for Staal as there was nothing out there for G.

Moves are made all of the time that fans think are dumb. It only takes 1 GM to value Staal enough to make a trade work. Put Staal in a zone system and he might be better. He's 30 years old and has 4 years left on his contract. For a team that might have trouble attracting free agents, Staal might be an option.

Never say never.

You can transition to being younger while also still being win now. Just because management expects to contend doesn't mean they are going to trade picks and kids. Same way if they didn't think they had a great shot to contend doesn't mean they will blow the team up. It's not all in extremes.

Dale Tallon says 'hi' as well as 'Analytics? We don't need no stinkin' analytics!'.

Staal looked like horse **** on the ice without analytics. Just because Tallon doesn't rely on analytics doesn't mean he can't identify a good player from a bad one. The only idiot that's proven to be dumb enough to see a good player in a terrible one is Vigneault.

If Tallon is looking to trade Demers, would he take Staal @ $4m in his place? They save some money and he gets a LD.

I think Staal at around $4m or, say $3.5m is probably reasonable. The guy is an excellent PKer and when healthy he plays a nice shutdown game. The problem last year is he seemed to be fighting his game and he and Holden were NOT good together. He needs someone with him who likes the puck on their stick (Stralman).

Even if Stepan stays, and the Rangers make no deals with Arizona, I'm still anxious to see what they do to get above the cap floor. They can't use Tippett as an excuse anymore for lack of success.

When you're a robot things are pretty binary that way.

I think it's pretty naive to not expect the team to be in "win now mode" so long as Henrik Lundqvist is still on the team.

Plus, FLA is a place I could see Staal waving his NMC to go.
