Why would the Rangers ask Staal to waive his NMC unless a deal has been agreed upon and they neeed him to waive?

I don't know... because if he's not willing why would u make a deal with another team for him? It's a waste of time for us and the hypothetical other GM

Not much of a secret that they would love to be rid of him especially since his best buddy was bought out.

Either way... pure fiction that he's moved.

Waste of time to negotiate with teams not even knowing if he would waive.

Except this happens all the time.

Happened with Gaborik (who did end up waiving for CBJ) Heatley (declined going to EDM), Sundin (Declined going to PHI), Spezza and Nash also declined to waive for destinations after deals were in place.

Just to clarify, I don't think Staal is even asked to waive and management has no intention to moving him because for what ever reason, they're willing to overlook how ****ing terrible he has become.

He's going to be an LTIR guy pretty soon IMO.

Agreed. Management is pretty passive, seems like they are content to wait until someone offers them a favorable deal instead of pursuing one.

Passive teams who don't regularly draft in the top 5 win lots of cups. oh, wait. That's almost never win cups....

The Rangers aren't under the gun to move him for another week, so unless they're dying to get a pick tonight as part of the deal, I'm sure they're content with just waiting. Plus I'm sure Gorton would be just fine with keeping him, as he should be. If he can't get the team a piece we really need, or pieces that have a high chance of becoming what we need, then there's no reason to trade him.

Not to mention the fact that there are other players who can be traded if the goal is simply to get younger.

And if it does end up being the Arizona deal and the Rangers get their 2018 first then that is much better.

Since I started following the team 25 years ago, the rangers have been linked to 75% of the rumors in this league by reporters. I don't know if it's journalists trying to get their name in a major metropolitan paper or teams leaking our name falsely to drive up the price.

Dreger is making me think the former.

We will sit back and do nothing as other teams in the Metro continue to get even stronger. Cool.

Status quo.

I don't mind not making trades just to make trades, but I think at this point they should be proactive.

I remember a quote from before this season that management was giving the current core one last shot before going a different route. But now I'm skeptical.

This. Simply this. Even if the stepan front is dead, you have Zuccarello and nash. If the front office really did sour on kreider or he is the piece that can land a defining right d, he's an option. There are few untouchables and only a few players have clauses.

My favorite part of it is the constant moving of the goalposts as to when things will ABSOLUTELY DEFINITELY 100% start to happen

No traction "at the moment" can change literally any second, relax.

Yeah I don't know why this board has a habit of jumping to conclusions based on a tweet that really says nothing

I've been annoyed with the lack of NYR info out there but they're likely working on other things as well.

No, its not.

This team needs big changes. It'll continue to be mediocre, otherwise.

Not really. This team outplayed and dominated the sens who were one goal away from reaching the cup finals. And this was with Girardi, and staal playing top minutes.
Replace Girardi with Shattenkirk on top pairing and boom the team is a contender
