I would be happy with any of the following:

Stepan for Dvorak, Crouse and #7
Stepan and Raanta for Dvorak, Crouse, #7 and #35.
Stepan for Strome, Fischer and the #7
Stepan and Raanta for Strome, Fischer, #7 and #35.

If the Rangers have to swap picks with Arizona #21 for #24 id be ok with that too.

I think it's pretty obvious what happened. Gorton gave ARI an offer and informed them that Stepan would be off the table if Lindberg was selected by Vegas. There would be no more negotiations, it was a take it or leave it offer. Tippet has lost a lot of vets and recently Hanzal. Doan was very pissed and decided to bolt. Tippet isn't at all comfortable hanging out the future of the organization to dry without any support whatsoever, and there are no other centers available.

Hence he wanted Chayka to take Gortons offer. Chayka is an idiot on par with people at the trading section of hfboards who think he can build a team with only draft picks and just don't realize how important it is to provide these kids with a platform to develop on. Any kind of reasonable environment. So he refused to take Gortons offer, besides he believed the expert clowns thinking Vegas would take a second rate 27 y/o goalie like Raanta over a really good looking young center like Oscar Lindberg (seriously, how could anyone believe that? I was 100% sure Vegas was taking Lindberg when he was exposed, any other decision would have been mindboggling). So Chayka told Tippet, take my word for it you are getting Stepan we can still get a better offer from Gorton. The rest is history, Vegas took Lindberg and Gorton told Chayka that Stepan isn't getting moved now and Tippet told Chayka to go **** himself.

This is a joke right? I doubt tippets firing had anything to do with the rangers.

I am subject to it as well, but it's this time if year that makes me realize that we're all addicts. There are far worse things to be addicted to, but HF and Bobby Mac have us hooked and they know it. A slow drip of speculation is all they need to keep us coming back and clicking through, even though there will be no games played for months.

I'm good with all scenarios. The pick swap would be #21 to #23, so no issue there either.

Just for the sake of clarification because I feel like this point isn't well understood: Oscar Lindberg is only a year younger than Stepan. We didn't lose some blooming young potential 1st line center. We lost our 4th line center.

I love the idea that the Rangers were trading Stepan to protect Lindberg.

I don't think it has anything to do with Tippett and Chakya's working relationship. Barroway is solely responsible for this and destroying what would have been an amicable FO and HC relationship, at worst. There were talks about how Barroway wanted Tippett gone without even paying the rest of his contract so there are strong feelings there. This was one of those cool pop up story books that was going to buckle and unfold before the draft or July 1st came. Maybe Stepan was Chayka and Chayka knew Tippett was going to be gone soon and maybe it was all Tippett. Tippett has been known to have more influence on roster than a HC should have. It's all conjectures at this point. Maybe Tippett didn't want to rush and trade away valuable assets and young players for Step. Maybe he was the one who wanted it. We'll see soon enough. 7OA comes off the board as a bargaining chip in a few hours.

I never knew Ola hated Stepan this much. It's like the departed spirit of animosity that Kovalev27 had for Fast possessed Ola and onto Stepan.

Of course it's not a joke. Why would it be?

When has a coach/someone in management been fired on 23 June? Doan was that franchise and was extremely pissed. The Hanzal trade was downright insane. Yandle was moved. They are heading 180 in the wrong direction, you cannot rebuild just with kids and zero structure and vets in sight. It's a fact that Tippet has made demands to Chayka to improve the team.

Tippet and Chayka couldn't work together, it became obvious. It's not like Chayka woke up yesterday and came up with the idea to fire a coach what 2.5 months after their last game...

Barroway became sole owner June 12th

What are you referring too?

I am pissed off because the stars aligned and we had a great shot at the Cup, but big parts of our core decided to not show up. It was business as usual for them, nobody even remotely raised to the occasion, instead they shrunk angainst a one man team with the one man having a broken foot. Stepan contribution was extremely poor for a top center.

I've been in go for it mode since AV came here, after Christmas that season. It wasn't enough but we came close. It was the right call. But you don't get many chances with a decently healthy deep roster with a reasonably open path to the Cup.

This team is going in the wrong direction. It wasn't enough. We need to make a shake up. For the coming 4 years Stepan has deal restrictions. He has a lot of value. It's indisputable that he never even remotely will have the trade value as he have right now. Good luck selling him as a rental when he is 30...

He should have been moved, we would have kept a valuable asset in Lindberg and we would have received a good return for him.

That's fine. Might be true, might not be. But I don't think AZ's reaction to any speculated Stepan offer is what led to Tippet's firing.

It is indeed a good time for a shake up as long as the return is nice. They did blow it but Step has been steady in the playoffs for us except for this year. It's more to do with his lack of elite offensive talent breaking through and not a case of a player that doesn't work hard, try his best, and be clutch when necessary. It's a bit harsh to harpoon Step for the failures of the team and largely the coach.

There has been a reported rift there for ever. Did you see the Doan interview after Hanzal was traded. Call it the tip of an ice berg or whatever.

It's been an honor watching Ola become unhinged with you gents the last few weeks.

On a more important note:

I am much more skeptical of a Stepan trade today than I was a week ago

If it's true than it's not about experience and vets versus youth and skill, it's about the inmates trying to run the asylum. Chayka can't have the coach and veteran players influencing a team in such a way that he cannot do his job. He is the GM, not Tippet or Doan. It's his job to build the team as he sees fit, which is why he was hired. If the coach and veteran players don't like it and are impeding progress then he needed to get rid of them. I would too if I were Chayka. Regardless this sounds like a bunch of wild speculation with no basis in reality. It also probably has little impact on whether or not a trade for Stepan is, or was going to be made. Again, Stepan is a player Chayka would be after and could provide leadership to a team that just lost pretty much all of it without being a dinosaur. Stepan would probably be the captain here if not for McD showing up and could easily be the captain there if they didn't just give it to OEL.

Who else can we move for a good return? I would trade Zib or Kreider, but don't think the return would be as good as for Stepan. We aren't shaking things up by trading a 4th lineee.

That bit about the NYR goes contrary to what we've herd since breakup dy, and is mere speculation by Dreger.
