That is certainly overrating him.

He's certainly not the team's savior, but he had more points than Nash (I know he played 7 more games than Nash). I don't think Grabner got a lot of PP time either... I just remember countless breakaways (I wish he had better hands) and exciting hockey from the guy.

Whats the deal here? Sounds like rumors are saying Raanta? But others in the thread are saying its Lindberg? But I don't see any actual rumor posted..

"actual rumor" is a funny term. Reminds me of a piece of furniture I once saw on sale at Ikea, that said it was made of genuine wood veneer.

If the Rangers were to have traded Stepan and didn't get back at least someone that they would protect (because of exempt players and/or picks) then it would mean they would be able to protect Lindberg. This would have hindered Vegas. Reports already out that Vegas was making a condition for teams that wanted any deal with them to not hinder their drafting process with separate deals. This definitely heavily hampered the Rangers ability to bargain. With the news of the Vegas condition that was extended to so many teams it makes sense why no Stepan deals (or any of the players that the Rangers were using a protection slot on: Stepan/Nash/Zucc/etc.).

Makes a lot of sense.

I wouldn't trade them a pick to keep Raanta. He's valuable, but if you trade him for a late 1st or a 2nd, it's a pointless lateral move (at best).

I don't think they can return the player to that team until at least one season has passed or something of that sort. Or am I thinking of buyouts?

In Gorton we trust.

Yes, if they take Raanta, that would be the best possible thing IMO. Rangers are a goalie factory, and our pipeline at that position is easily the strongest part of the entire organization. There are goalies available to backup Lundqvist for 20 games for this upcoming season.

Losing one of Lindberg, Fast or Grabner is going to be a big blow. Our offensive depth is the one thing we have going for us.

Why would they protect him and then have him waive?

it isn't happening but it is possible that staal refused to waive his NMC to be exposed to vegas but would waive it for a trade somewhere else...waiving for the expansion draft was for vegas only, still couldn't trade him somewhere else.
