Methot - Demers
Brodin - Vatanen
Ouellet/de Haan/McNabb - TvR

That's a very solid NHL defense even before they start making moves.

The only thing missing is what more teams are looking for: A real #1 D-man. They were never going to get that out of the expansion draft but that is a good group.

I said it before, but this expansion draft seems to be focusing more on the new team being competitive than previous expansion drafts.

Sure, but who knows what they'll do in free agency or with the pieces they acquire to make trades? They could flip Vatanen, drop Demers down a rung, and go out and sign Shattenkirk. He wants to be a #1D and they can pay out the nose for him. They could send Brodin to Montreal for Galchenyuk and sign Alzner.

If they add Shattenkirk through free agency, it's a good D-core for a team entering the league

They already bought him out.

Yes, but someone mentioned the buy-out window closed Thursday. It's open until the 30th

The Rangers have $24 in open cap space plus the rise in cap space on top of that.

1. Zib: $6
2/3. Lindberg+Fast: $2
4. Smith: $5.5
5. Shatty: $6.5
TOTAL: $20

D7: McDonagh, Shatty, Smith, Skjei, Staal, Holden, Bereglazov
F13: Nash, Stepan, MZA, Zib, Kreider, Miller, Hayes, Vesey, Grabner, Buchnevich, Fast, Lindberg, Pimple. [Whoever is lost to Vegas, sign a similar player with a similar cap hit.]

Why wouldn't he? If they can offer him 7m a year, for 7 years, in a state that has no income tax (Like Florida), and they can offer him a spot on the top pair, it's a good reason for him to sign there.

No shot at a cup (or even a playoff spot really) for years.
Many can offer him 7 over 7, and many can offer him top pairing minutes

Where'd you get 24 from?

I have 11.4 , + 2.9 from Klein + 2M in the cap rise. About 16.

They already bought him out.

We don't know when they processed the paperwork. All we know is that they said they will buy him out. They only said they will buy him out. Not when.

He could have been bought out yesterday, or he may not be bought out until the 30th. We don't know.

Man it's like some people believe things happen as soon as a window to do so occurs. :shakehead
