Our 2 best chances were 2014 and 2017 in my opinion.

Step was good in 2014.

I don't know if we could have beat Crosby and Murray. Probably not.

I think that is the million dollar question ... How do you beat the Pens ... I have to admit, I don't think anyone constructed right now can challenge them. That's a problem.

I really don't understand trading Stepan for a D. It creates a huge hole at C. Fix one hole, but create another.

I think packaging Stepan with another piece for a better C is the only move I would consider ... especially with Shatty available on the open market + resigning Smith.

It's actually the only real way to improve the team with a slow moving cap and few assets. You're looking for a net improvement, rather than just making an addition.

They are definitely beatable but you have to catch them at the right time. Don't forget a bad Pit team almost upset one of the best teams ever (Islanders) in 1982. If our teams goalie stands on his head and their teams goalie slumps they will lose. It will not be easy to beat them but it will happen.

If Stepan is truly on the market...

I'm a bit surprised that there isn't more smoke surrounding him to St Louis. Perhaps thats by design, but that seems like a pretty natural fit IMO.

Was thinking the Rangers would make a trade for a D. Now that they have an extra protection spot, and some good forwards they can't protect.

Yea even Fast and a pick for a better D . Something

Although I think they just want to sign Smith to start

For who? Don't really see what they'd give back that wasn't kind of an eye towards the future thing rather than immediate upgrade. Something like Fabbri and Schmaltz? (Blues fans would flip out I'm sure)

I disagree. There are other ways including signing a FA defenseman like Shattenkirk, or even trading a winger for a D.

This is so much more obvious than giving up the package that would be required to get a RHD in a trade that's good enough to play with Mcdonagh.

This is exactly what I was thinking

They're desperate for C help. Im not a huge fan of Schmaltz but I love Fabbri.

There are no guarantees of getting Shattenkirk. If you put your eggs in that basket, what do you do if he goes elsewhere? There's an opportunity here to maximize the value of a player who I wonder what management really thinks about.

There's nothing at all wrong with exploring a Stepan trade..

Shattenkirk wants to be here, if the Rangers even come close (and they want him) he's coming here.
