Wouldn't surprise me if an avalanche of trades happen at 2pm tomorrow, an hour before the deadline.

You only move Stepan if you get a quality package back. Gorton does not have to trade him, but he's doing the right thing and listening to offers. Again, if you can get a Brass/Zib type deal, or get a top 10 pick, as well as another quality piece, then, you make the deal. But, Gorton isn't dumping Stepan.

Speaking of playoff performances, anyone remember when Kreider disappeared and then decided to start playing hockey in the final period of the season?

He dominated that final period! But in all seriousness, not worried about him. He's usually one of the stronger performers.

No, I'm pretty sure we all blanked out the most recent playoffs. Why do you ask?

Larkin can play center

I like that flexibility for sure but would you prefer to have that kind of crazy speed on the wing?

Imagine throwing out Kreider-Larkin-Grabner at one time against some slow defensemen? That could be fun.

It would be better for us to trade from a position of strength, which is definitely the wing.

Nash
Zuccarello
Miller
Kreider

That's the order in which I would trade them. Nash with 50% retained (It's only 1 season) should bring back a nice package

Grabner is the best defensive player out of that bunch. That scares me.

Just seems like everyone is focusing on Stepan when Kreider had an arguably worse playoffs.

Definitely, but Stepans NTC kicking in makes him a bigger risk long term. If kreider continues down that path we can trade him later. Stepan on the other hand is a risk as of what? July 1st?

I wouldn't play them as a line permanently but I think it could be a entertaining matchup against slow dmen. I usually prefer to have game breaking speed on the wings unless it is McDavid. For him I will adjust.

They were both pretty terrible IMO, but Kreider has a better overall playoff record (it's not great still). As others have said, I don't think the focus on trading Stepan is so much about the recent playoffs (although it makes it easier to talk about maybe?), it's more that his caphit is higher than any forward but Nash and gets harder to move once the NTC kicks in, he's likely plateaued as player (people still think CK has a another level to hit), and that Stepan has been a big part of the core that while good hasn't ever gotten it all done and needs to be replaced/changed up.

For 2 years... He has a full NTC for only 2 years. That's it. And people want to trade him for Duchene, who will be UFA in 2 years. I find that hilarious.

Stepan is cost-controlled for 4 more years and had 55 points in an apparently horrible season

A declining Duchene at at that.

Who ever trades for him is going to have major buyers remorse.
