15 teams passed on Tarasenko... Including St Louis. I am not upset about that one at all. I am upset about us picking a goon, not on passing on Tarasenko

Seriously. Even if we had picked Fowler, it probably would have prevented us from locking up Staal... We're still paying the price from that draft and will be until Staal and his cap hits are gone

I would think the numbers are more like this:

Zibanejad: 4x4.75m (Similar to Kreider)
Smith: 4x4m
Shattenkirk: 6x6.25m

Would like Zib to get more term... 5-7 years would be awesome.

Smith I am still on the fence. if they get a young defenseman via trade, then I expect only one of Smith or Shattenkirk to be here

Yeah the allure of dealing Stepan to Arizona could very well be the fact that they clear enough money in one move to go out and throw a deal at Shattenkirk. Still not a fan, but I can see the logic there. Zibanejad and Hayes as your top two centers is probably more palatable than Holden and Smith as your top two RD.

Could also be moving step allows us to give zib more term and Nd have some breathing room. And save the extra space for other moves and future off-season.

I love step but would absolutely do dvorak +7oa+another piece. That falls inline with the brass deal. Dvorak will be a 2C within 2 seasons.

My question is is there any way on gods green earth that heiskanen falls to 7? I've seen a lot of mocks and it seems like outside of the top 2 picks the rest are a toss up. He'll I even saw one that had yammamoto go at like 8oa when everyone here seems to think he'll be available late in the first

Was trying to be conservative. Even with your numbers that leaves only 1.2 in space. To fit Shattenkiirk a trade needs to be made

We have a cap-hit of $58,086,111 at the moment with 10F, 5D and 2G

*Not counting Klein and Kampfer

16.9m in cap space to sign:

Zibanejad
Fast/Lindberg
Smith
Shattenkirk

Assuming Vegas picks one of the Swedes, that gives us 12F, 7D, 2G

6m for Shattenkirk leaves 10.9m

4m for Smith leaves 6.9m

5m for Zibanejad leaves 1.9m

1.9m to sign Fast and have some cap space to operate during the season. Can that be done? This is assuming Zibanejad gets 5m. He has 2 RFA seasons left to buy out. Will he get a contract similar to Stepan's? Not sure.

Do we need to sign both Shatty and Smith? If we invest 6 mill in Shatty I might be more inclined to look for a topline forward. That is assuming Step or Nash is gone.

I think the idea is to trade step for a.forward that will be top line in a couple seasons

I hope that's the idea. We can fix our defense via free agency. Trade Step for a future center and maybe sign Joe as a stopgap center for now.

Trading Stepan for a defenseman doesn't make sense to me. Sign Shattenkirk and Smith and we're set on the right side and have a top 4 as good as anyone in the league. No need to ruin our center depth when we could rebuild our defense without trades.

Heard Oshie was close to inking a deal with Washington, wouldn't really interest me anyways.
I would look into some sort of deal with Radulov though. Maybe 3 years?

Radulov is great. But he's going to demand such a ridiculous amount of money after the season he had. He was asking for 7 million coming back from Russia as a total question mark. He's going to cost at least 7 a year. I'd only sign him if we can move Nash without retaining or taking salary back.

Who the hell is crazy enough to pay him 7???
Hes good but come on
