Dallas would probably prefer McDonagh. I would trade McDonagh to the Stars with #3,Honka and Gurianov being the main pieces. The Rangers can take the Finnish D at #3. Honka slides in at the right side.

I think Honka is untouchable. Maybe if McDonagh had 4 years on his deal instead of 2.

I hate myself sometimes haha

Pettersson, Liljegren, Brannstrom, Salo, Jokiharju and then with the later picks go for guys like Manukyan, Slepets, Vovchenko and end the draft by getting a goalie... Kirill Ustimenko

PB can thank me now ;)

Let's be serious. It's the Rangers...one of those picks will be on a Poehling, Norris, Bowers or Reedy.

If we had that many picks, I'd be totally fine taking a "safe" player. It's only when you have 1 high pick that you need to swing for the fences.

I'd say it's just the opposite. When you have a limited number of picks, you want to mitigate risk. When you have a lot of picks you can afford to roll the dice a little bit because you're increasing your odds of getting a player.

I'd say you go for upside either way, depth can always be found cheaply via trades or UFA... Every pick should be based on potential upside / likelyhood to get there.

And you know, score over 40 goals twice.

The first time he scored 40, we missed the playoffs. The second time we went to the conference finals. Gaborik had 5 goals and 6 assists in 20 games. He had 1 goal and 0 assists in 6 games against the devils. The other 2 years he scored 22 goals in 62 games, and 9 goals in 35 games, before he was traded.

Scoring 40 doesn't mean anything if the team doesn't have success or the player doesn't show up when it counts. So yeah, the best thing Gaborik did for us was get us Brassard.

Yeah, but what if he didn't provide that 40 goal production? The team would obviously be worse off and lack production.

Scoring 40 is never a bad thing though...

It's not his fault others didn't produce

Yeah, but we would have finished lower, and draft Erik Karlsson instead of Michael Del Zotto. It's Gaborik's fault we don't have Karlsson on our team :naughty:

NHL GMs are just doing a horrible job. McPhee was scared ****less for teams screwing him. Many teams have protection issues and many teams have a bunch of worthless players taking up protected spots -- McPhee of course feared the GMs would take advantage of this. Nobody did.

I have said it for a long time, there is no excuses for how many GMs run their teams. The Cap excuse is just a bad excuse, teams have always had budgets. They are extremely risk advers and so many GMs have zero incentives to make the proper moves even if they include a little risk. I think Gorton is doing his best but he has nobody to dance with.

Where is media in all this?

Old boys club. Everyone is afraid of everyone. These are businessmen, there is no reason for them to risk anything.

It's incredibly ****ing sad. I'm willing to bet Gorton was willing to move a lot of guys based on the little of what we've been hearing.

I'm not saying it's a bad thing. All I said was that the best thing he did for us was get us Brassard. Gaborik got us Brass and Brass got us Zib. I'll take Zib now over 40 goals scored during a year we missed the playoffs.

Must be nice to 'debate' like this. You can never be wrong.

Ah ****. 2010 draft of course. We could have had Ryan Johansen, who we then traded for Seth Jones

2010 was McIlrath over Tarasenko. Imagine how different this team would be if we had chosen Tarasenko.

Now of course this was right after Cherepanov so we were no doubt scared of drafting Russians

So looking the 75 mil cap and some rough math. If Klein retires well have in the vicinity of 16.2 mil in space.

Zib at say 5x5.5
Smith at 4x4.5
**** at 6x6
Leaves us with 200k still need to fit in fast or Lindbergh as I think one of them are picked in the ed.
Plus need money for berez or pink.

Which leads me to believe that the step smoke is all about us landing shatty

Tarasenko on the opposite wing of Kreider seems oh so appealing.

15 teams passed on Tarasenko... Including St Louis. I am not upset about that one at all. I am upset about us picking a goon, not on passing on Tarasenko

I would think the numbers are more like this:

Zibanejad: 4x4.75m (Similar to Kreider)
Smith: 4x4m
Shattenkirk: 6x6.25m
