Manson is a stud, but reg sized
Hayes has far more upside, size, reach, better speed in stride. Can't teach that.
Besides we need Hayes when Stepan goes

I would trade Miller+ or Hayes+ for Manson

It's always about size with you. You would have us go after Megna, Hanzal and Franson, just because they are tall.

I love how bernmeister doesn't want to trade Hayes for Manson because Manson is just average size (6'3" / 216 lbs) but then trades for the towering Julius Bergman (6'1" / 205 lbs) hahaha

Bobbop suggested a possible Stepan deal to Vegas for Nelson and Dumba. I think if Gorton could squeeze either the CBJ or ANA #1, I might be okay with that deal. The Rangers were high on Nelson in his draft year.

I'd want the Islander pick at #15 with Dumba and Nelson.

Isles are giving up their 1st for Vegas to not take a forward.

GMGM is tight with NYI management. I think he will honor that, especially since NYI hired him after he was relieved from WSH.

So I'm not expecting Nelson to be a Ranger.

3OA, Gurianov, Honka, Faksa, maybe Tufte... They have some interesting assets to trade for. Maybe for Zuccarello, since they already have center depth

Dallas would probably prefer McDonagh. I would trade McDonagh to the Stars with #3,Honka and Gurianov being the main pieces. The Rangers can take the Finnish D at #3. Honka slides in at the right side.

De Haan?

Bern just doesn't make any sense what so ever at any point.

Preferably, we need someone who can play both the PP and PK like Jacob Trouba, but thats not happening. So if we can only pick one or the other, we need a RH PP QB. I don't see the big purpose Manson serves. He'd be an upgrade, but Vatanen would help more. This is the defense I'd like to see at this point.

McDonagh-Bereglazov
Skjei-Vatanen
Staal-Graves
Holden

Thats still not ideal, only 1 righty and no real top pairing RHD, but would have to do for now, as we aren't getting Trouba. I think Vatanen will bounce back offensively next year, and if Skjei can stay in the 30 point range, that could give us three 30 point defensemen. There's also a chance Graves has a big points season. Would much rather trade for Vatanen than sign Shattenkirk to that terrible contract.

And then someone will mention Smith, but I don't really see the purpose. Again, he's an upgrade on at least one or two of those defensemen like Manson would be, but he would require a big contract, and unless we are getting rid of Staal, I don't really see the point in another older defenseman on a big contract. We'll just have to do with Staal instead of Smith. Gotta get the younger defensemen incorporated here the next year. That should've always been the plan. I'll always take younger defensemen with something to prove in the NHL over average older defensemen who require big contracts.

Eventually, we could transition to this defense after the upcoming season. Thats a pretty well balanced defense, although it might be one defensive guy light.

McDonagh-Bereglazov
Skjei-Vatanen
Graves-Pionk

I don't like this at all, i like Bereglazov but to throw him in with McDonagh? ugh...
Also, Skjei-Vatanen seems like a fairly badly balanced D-pairing, Vatanen is not good defensively and Skjei (so far in his NHL career) is more offence then defence.

I'd MUCH prefer McDonagh-Manson, Skjei-Smith, Staal-X where X is one of the kids or a cheap guy we get via trade or UFA, preferrably a PP guy, let them fight it out during camp.

Would i like a legit top 4 RH PP QB? Absolutely, but it's not top priority for me, most of the games are played 5v5, fix the D 5v5 first and look at the PP after.

I think promoting Skjei over McDonagh on the PP would help quite a bit as a start.

Yeah that would be my guess. Works perfectly for the Isles cap.

Kulemin, Grabo, Chimera combine for ~$13M against the cap and will be coming off after this year.

They can't pay De Haan without becoming cap strapped.

I thought the Isles were giving up a 1st for Vegas not to select two specific forwards, and not a forward in general, and Nelson was not one of those forwards.

McDonagh to Dallas for 3OA, Honka, Gurianov
Stepan + Raanta to Arizona for 7OA, 35OA, Dvorak, Hickey
Trade 3OA for 8OA and 37OA

Draft Makar/Heiskanen (7), Pettersson (8), Brannstrom (21), Kostin (35) and Yamamoto (37)

Yeah I believe the rumored deal is the Islanders 1st rounder to Vegas so GMGM takes de Haan and not one of the forwards. I'd bet that it might also involve flipping a forward like Neal back to the Islanders.

Methot - Demers
de Haan - Dumba

Not a bad top-4. If they wind up with Demers, Dumba, and Vatanen, I expect at least one of them to be dealt for help up front.

I know ur trolling but still :D

Trade down from 3 to 5-10, take Pettersson and Liljegren with those 2 picks, Brännström at 21, the grab as many Euros (Salo, Heponiemi, Lipanov, Ikonen, Boqvist, Jokiharju etc etc) as possible with those early 2nd picks + the one we get for trading down :D

You got so many draft picks that you confused yourself into still selecting at #3.

I hate myself sometimes haha

Pettersson, Liljegren, Brannstrom, Salo, Jokiharju and then with the later picks go for guys like Manukyan, Slepets, Vovchenko and end the draft by getting a goalie... Kirill Ustimenko

PB can thank me now ;)

Stepan is 27 as of a few days ago. Shattenkirk is 28. If the Rangers turn Stepan into the type of deals we've been discussing AND sign Shattenkirk for the same contract Stepan got, 6 years at 6.5m, that's a huge net add for this organization.

Same premise as when they traded Gomez and signed Gaborik.

Gaborik was only signed for 5 years and didn't even last that long. The best thing he did for us we get us Brassard.

Stepan is 27 and has 4 years left on his contract. Shattenkirk is 28 and will probably want 7 years. Big difference between a contract that ends when a player is 31 as opposed to 35.
