caps are not trading us AO...within the division...not happening.

id love AO on this team, but it would never ever happen barring free agency or a trade out west then a trade back here.

Teams make in division trades. We got Jagr. We got Lindros and Froese. Tampa just traded Drouin. All Im saying is we should ask about him. Why would people rather assume its impossible than ask?

If Stepan goes to Arizona, the Rangers are going to get futures in return. Arizona needs to reach the cap floor. With Smith traded, they'll have $15 million to go even if they bring Doan back one more year.

The Rangers will get 2-3 of the 7th overall, 23rd overall, Dvorak, Domi, or Fischer. That's minimal salary coming back to the Rangers. The value in doing such a deal for the Rangers is to re-stock the prospect cupboard and to free up cap space to sign a guy like Shattenkirk.

If Stepan is traded and Lindberg is lost to expansion, the Rangers have no choice but to dip into free agency to find a checking center or two.

I wouldn't hesitate to bring Brian Boyle back at all if he'll accept a deal for under two million/year for a couple of years.

Bonino would be a great target but will be overpaid because he won two Cups in a row with Pittsburgh. Martin Hanzal would be a great under the radar signing. He went up against the Western Conference's top centers for years with Phoenix and did a great job. He'd be an ideal top 9 checking line center that would be able to slide up and down the lineup in case of injury. He'd be a bargain if he'd sign for under $4 million.

I think a guy like Vandevelde might be an option as well for a cheap guy in a depth role.

The overpayment it would take to land Ovechkin would be laughable. I have no doubt any trade like that wouldn't be worth it for the Rangers.

Could be true so we should ask and find out. I remember Ranger fans on the Rangers board saying we shouldn't trade for Jagr because Washington would demand Jamie Lundmark. I remember Ranger fans on sports radio saying Edmonton would demand Leetch and Richter for Messier.

The interest in trading for Ovi should be lower than the interest in signing Stamkos last summer (which should've been close to 0 for most rational people).

Chayka can be a good negotiator because has no problem fielding a bad team. He wanted those draft assets. Doesn't like the offer? Pass and we get to suck another year.

If he is actually trying to improve his team... let's see how he does now. Free agents don't look there, not that there are many centers available. Teams are looking for a #1, Montreal and Vegas, maybe Carolina for instance. How many have that kind of center available?

Okay. We're discussing two different things here.

Of course there's no harm in asking Washington what they want, duh, but if the whole point of this conversation wasn't to then try and 'predict' what it would actually take to get Ovi out of Washington and onto NYR, then there's no point of discussing this at all.

Gorton should call every team about every player in the NHL and AHL and prospects.

Aren't you the guy that is often telling us how great Nash is in 5 on 5 per 60 goal scoring or something like that? Well go tell Washington and make a deal for us! :)

Yeah I think that's the key that Coyotes fans seem to want to ignore. At some point they need to start taking steps forward, and that can't be driven completely by the hope that the kids will figure it all out. They need some known quantities in the lineup to build around, and they're not going to get those players as free agents.

Sure, they can re-sign Hanzal to a mega deal, but is it worth it? They'll get 60 games out of him each year and that number will likely only go down. For a budget minded team, that'd be a colossal waste of money.

Call me irrational because I would take either or both on our team. :)

Nash is great at 5v5 goals per 60. That's an objective fact. I don't know what you want from me here.

So use that objective fact to go make a deal for AO. You have my permission to include Fast, Oscar, Graves, and/or Hayes. If you need to include Lundy we would obviously need Holtby back. You can use Stepan as bait if needed as well.

No matter what, I'd love to bring back Smith to play with Skjei. If you look at the HERO Charts, Smith was good where Skjei was lacking. They pair well together--eye test and analytics test.

McDonagh needs someone to play with him. If not Shattenkirk, would Franson come reasonably cheap? Guys like Wideman and Michael Stone are also available, but they're not very good at all defensively.

$4 mil for Smith and $3.5 mil for Franson.

McDonagh - Franson
Skjei - Smith
Staal - Bereglazov
Holden

The pairings could be moved around a good deal. It's just that contract for Shattenkirk that gives me cause for concern.

I don't understand what I did in this conversation for you to post **** like this.

Whatever works for you, Nicky.

3. There is no reason to expect the Rangers to fill the right-side hole by signing 28-year-old impending free agent Kevin Shattenkirk to the six- or seven-year deal at between $6.25-6.75 million he likely can command on the market.

Were Shattenkirk willing to take a higher AAV for a dramatically reduced term of two or three years, then quite possibly, but why on earth would the Capitals rental leave millions on the table to play Broadway?

Other notes from Brooks in the article as well, including Stepan, McDonagh, Vegas picks etc...

That was painful to read. Brooks has been absolutely brutal since they stopped leaking him information. His lack of knowledge when it comes to any team other than the Rangers is mind boggling.
I like that he took some deserved shots at AV.

That Brooks article is so out of touch to be honest. If we were to land one of Keller, Domi, or Dvorak I would be livid if we immediately flipped them for a defenseman. If we are fortunate enough to get an elite 21 and under prospect like that in a Stepan trade we need to keep whoever it would be and try to move Miller or Hayes for a defenseman. Or you know, just sign the guy that's available on July 1st to fill the 1RD vacancy. :dunno:
