Let's say we have Strome+7OA OR Dvorak+23OA on the table. What would you guys choose? Not saying it's happening or anything, or is a fair deal, just building on posts I've seen..

For long-term purposes, I prefer Strome and the 7th. Strome has boom potential, and you get a better opportunity for getting higher skilled player at 7OA.

Strome+7th. Those 2 pieces instantly become our top 2 prospects most likely.

Strome and #7, but I'd do it with hesitation for sure. Giving up Stepan and not getting a proven piece back is tough. On the flip side, Strome and Makar would take our prospect pool from crap to decent in a hurry.

Plus, being at #7 is a nice spot. Probably a lot of flexibility there to maybe pick up another pick.

Team which finishes last in points is guaranteed a top 4 pick, as after top 3 it's all decided by points. Avs are at 4

I am super anxious as to what I read about Strome's skating. Plus, even if he's able to be effective playing that style, it's not exactly in synch with what the Rangers have been all about in terms of team construction over the last couple of years. Push comes to shove, I want Dvorak and the #23 over Strome and the #7.

But I'm looking for a bidding war that can do better than that. If I can't get at least the #7, Dvorak, and a 3rd solid piece from ARI, then I'm looking to see what else is out there. Can I get Dumba + 2 1st rounders from Vegas? Can I get the #3 OA + Honka from Dallas? What's Minnesota offering? Etc., etc.

I would choose to keep Stepan. Neither deal is quite enough, though it's close.

If the Rangers got the 7th and there wasn't anyone there they were in love with, could they maybe flip that as part of a package for a guy like MacKinnon?

Y'all are mighty picky. If we can get a top pick for the 1st time in about 10 years plus a promising young player while moving some cap space to make room for renovation on defense, I'd be pretty happy about it. There's going to be some level of downgrade to our forward group but we have guys that can step up. Miller, Hayes, Lindberg*, Buch, Vesey, Zib are all still young and capable. It might be "not enough" now but it's likely in 2-3 years that the combination of one of the yotes roster players plus a 1st round pick will turn into so much more than Stepan at age 30 if we decide to keep him. We have to make some concessions now and let some people go but in a few years, once that new energy efficient power plant that runs on rotten vegetables and fruit opens up, everyone will reap the rewards. If we do due diligence and draft a good player at 23 or 7 and ask for a promising player while bargaining with the potential of said player busting in mind, we are making the correct asset management percentage move 99% of the time. Concessions are necessary to retool on the fly. No one is going to pay you a McDonagh for Gomez anymore nowadays.
