I was responding to @haohmaru hoping we could at least be “in” the playoff race until the end. Losing to Buffalo last night really kills that hope. Again not saying to make the playoffs but to really be in the race for the experience the youth would get.

Igor needs to take over full time to give them a chance.

Those hopes were dead long before they lost to Buffalo.

They needed to make up 11 points in 13 games and jump 5 teams to get into a WC spot between the ASB and TDL. They basically needed to run the table to stay within reasonable striking distance, that was never happening with this group.

Strome, Skjei, Buchnevich...

This should be emphatically clear to all by now. This troika of replaceable spare parts are middle-of-the-road NHL options, all have glaring deficiencies. We do not have the space for any - and we are better without all.

I'm in the "keep" Strome camp, only because I think the fact he can play center/winger and won't break the bank are two attractive qualities for this Rangers team as currently constructed. I can see the argument against him, though. Not necessarily wrong. It should be abundantly clear Buchnevich is a good player, solid 2nd line player at the NHL level, but he's the third piece on a line. He is the complementary guy who benefits being with two better players with significant chemistry (Kreider-Zibanejad). Skjei has been a disappointment since he was extended. I'm also in the trade Georgiev camp because the Rangers are a goalie factory and his value will never be higher.

If you believe in the organization, Buchnevich has a replacement: Kravtsov. Skjei will also have a replacement in K'Andre Miller. I would not hate trading Skjei and making DeAngelo a LHD to pair with Fox/Trouba, either. Those players won't have their production replaced immediately, but the talent level is right on par.

I'm in the keep Kreider, Strome and DeAngelo camp. Attach an asset or two to clear Smith's salary. Right there that gets DeAngelo paid. Buchnevich cleared is enough to give Kreider a raise. Ultimately it comes down to Strome and what he wants, but cap space won't be as much of a problem the year after next when Shattenkirk's buyout figure, and Lundqvist/Staal in the final year of their contracts, come off the books. Our young players will also likely be signed to bridge contracts.

Remember when everyone was saying Strome was just a late bloomer. And that his production wasn’t due to Panarin. And that we should keep him? People here are all about recency bias.

Why the panic with Strome? Did he sleep with everyone's mom or something, the guy has been 3 times better than I expected and better than any forward not named Zib, Kreider and Panarin. I dont get the hate.

I like Strome. I’ve said many times that was a great trade. However I do think Panarin is a main reason why he had that hot streaks that’s just the truth. Doesn’t mean he is bad because he has been good. I’m just not comfortable giving him a big contract. Even with a Panarin he has fallen back to earth. I think he is best suited as a third liner

We need better answers as to what this organization could do to replace Kreider, Strome, and Fast at the forward position before we even think of secondary moves on guys like Buchnevich.

That's a full top nine forward line likely gone for next season.

I’d be surprised if Fast isn’t here next year.

they’re going to need to trade for or sign someone though, that much is clear

Kreider is easily the hardest guy to replace, players like him don’t grow on trees. Fast is one of my favorite players and would love to keep him but he is probably gonna get some pretty good offers and he simply doesn’t give enough offense to warrant a big raise. Strome I like but I think he is a guy who you look to trade at the deadline especially since we have Chytil who has taken a bigger step this year

One of the reasons why we should be adding sweeteners to Georgiev to get a good young forward.

And to be trying to get job pick returns for Kreider or Strome

there were loads of people wanting to give him a 5x5 deal, and using Tony D tweets to dunk on people who questioned the logic of giving Strome term only weeks ago.

no one hates him. People have rightly questioned whether a guy who barely shoots would continue putting up big numbers. (He also takes a billion penalties but no one says a word)

panarin is going to do steroids

Fighting/wrestling with the much bigger Ross the Boss probably not good and contributed greatly to that injury and maybe the main cause for it . I for one did not envy his job that he faced that night nor would most on here having to dance with Ross J.

it's irrational.

You have a nice middle 6 player under control for another year. He's not going anywhere unless he has insane demands and/or a team overpays... somehow that gets spun into 'he's as good as his point total' and 'we should sign him long term'. It's quite stupid
