He is 8 points behind Tony, which is quite significant in only 55 games. Additionally, 20 of them has come on the PP and he is continuously unable to score at even strength. Now he might be the best PP defenceman in the post-lockout era as his point production so far in his NHL career suggests, but that does not check out with the eye test at all.

Or coaches have favorites and Strome is one of Quinn’s

And again you’re just disregarding all the hard numbers about Strome’s play.

Yes a lot of his points are tied to Panarin. Yes he takes a lot of penalties and draws not nearly as many. He’s like top 5 in the league with this

Now why would a coach have a favorite? Hard thing to answer lol
You are disregarding the obvious fact that him and Panarin feed well off each other and could use a better right winger. Panarin is having a career year, everyone thought if that were to happen he would be playing with Zibanajad. He is playing better now with Strome than he did with both P.L Dubois and Cam Atkinson on his line....facts, they are only good if they support your own argument I guess.

Who said he had to be a driver? He isnt being paid like a top 3 player why should we be expecting him to be one. Also, who is going to trade a better player for a guy who has only played well since he got here last year? The return we get for him will most likely make us a worse team, he fits with Strome, maybe people should ask the question, why is Fast on with Panarin and Strome, if either panarin or Strome have a bad night the line has one good forward.

The problem is that he isn’t a driver if he plays on a 3rd or 4th line, and then you pay him as what a 2nd line player and only get someone who doesn’t even lift a depth line. That is the risk with guys like this. Kyle Turris is a good example. When they get out of their element a bit, you end up asking what you really are getting from them.

If Kreider is traded, could you see the Rangers making a pitch for Rakell? Or does a guy with two years left (3.79M cap hit) not really fit the timeline?

Rakell and Zibanejad were dynamite together at the WHC, and obviously if the Ducks are listening to offers, the Rangers with their group of young talent are a team you hope to hear from.

Nils Lundkvist stands out as a young player who would represents a big organizational need for Anaheim.

Doesn’t fit our timeline. He’ll be a 29 UFA in 2 more years looking for his payday like Kreider will this summer

Not after today, he had 3 points. And I believe the eye test on this forum is referred to as the bias against some not others test.
Are you telling me that you think Neal Pionk is the best PP defenceman in the NHL over the past 15 years, but somehow cannot generate scoring at even strength?

5v4 scoring since he came into the league:

Neither is Buch or Kakko. What's the point?

(a) More so than Strome, (b) it’s the center that is in a position to really be a driver on a line.

Strome has centered 3rd lines for us early this season with subpar results.

I am not taking anything away from him, but just like Kyle Turris I think he is a problematic type to give a big contract.

I would never say never but I don't really expect Gorton to delve into his RFAs at the deadline. He has only dealt Miller in that situation and he brought back another RFA in that trade. And that didn't necessarily work out well. Gorton doesn't seem to load up to do list at the TDL.

On top of it, guys like Strome don't have playoff pedigree or anything to really entice the buyers at that time.

I suppose people can debate the merits of trading Strome or Buch now, but I'm not sure I see that as being very likely.

Pionk has 36 points
And DeAngelo has 41, so if we're going to nitpick over a small detail instead of the larger point you were still wrong since you claimed a 4 point gap.

Just odd timing in my data gathering, since he got to 20 PP points with the 2 he had today but the database hadn't updated when I checked his total.

DeAngelo has posted a positive xG ratio this season while having to lug around an older, crappier version of Staal.

Pionk was heavily in the red when he was tasked to do the same (until separated). He’s still in the red this year with out having to worry about Staal at all.

Whatever Pionk's xG ratio, I'm pretty sure Jets fan are happy with his being on pace for almost 60 points.

Not sure what you are referring to, but Pionk is like ranked 50th in 5 on 5 scoring.

D scoring can be very affected by environment and usage. I think TDA up until fairly recently did an extremely good job creating offense — without — playing in a strong environment. We have rotated 3 RDs on the top PP.

But I do find it a bit funny that we now are trashing Pionk for not being top 10-20 in the league in ES scoring, recently he wasn’t even deemed to be a NHLer.

I think those who drew the conclusion that Pionk wasn’t a NHLer or even the worst D in the league should reconsider how they analyze such things. JMHO.

Usage has a big impact for us. Our top match-up line hasn’t won the game in the game against the — admittedly really strong — top lines around us.

That affected Pionk, that affects Trouba, and it’s going to affect anyone with that assignment — until — we can ice a unit of 5 that can match the top unit of 5’s around us, so to speak.

I also think it’s essential that we start to notice this obvious fact (in both numbers and the eye test). The problem is not one D that drags everyone else down with him. Never has been.

That isn’t a mark against DeAngelo.

He has been tasked with carrying around Staal and did better when he had to do it last year and is in the green this year while having to do it again.

usage matters to an extent, but only when play needs to be restarted. Teams
Will get the match ups that they want on the fly.

. Honestly I don’t think Panarin is having a great year because of Strome lol. I think Strome has benefited much more playing with Panarin. But the past month or so he is really fallen off a cliff and he still gets to play with Panarin and the top PP unit. I like Strome but I think he is what he is. It reminds me of when Namestikov played with that big line in Tampa And benefited but once he was away from it his production fell drastically
