Huh? Once i saw how much he got i got even more excited to see what Kreider is going to fetch. Pens got fleeced.

I’ll just agree to disagree I think Pittsburgh did great.

Got to agree with auf here. Galchenyuk is basically a warm body at this point. 1st + Addison for a player under contract for 3 more years at a very reasonable $5.5m isn't that much of a fleecing.

Marleau
Age 33 70 pts
Age 34 57 pts
Age 35 48 pts

~31-32% decline in production from age 33 to 35

Prorate to a 33 year old starting at 50 pts
50 pts
41 pts
34 pts

(if said player is still at 50 pts at age 33)

But thats just it Kupo...youre assuming one of them can just take on that role in the top 6. Kakko is 18 and it really shows. Is he going to back next year at 19 and be ready for that role? Or even the following year? Year 3 of his career. That will be year 4 or 5 of the rebuild depending on who you ask. I dont see the Rangers FO being content with getting much weaker in the top 6 with a bunch of maybe’s and unknowns over the next year or so when they could have re-signed Kreider and had him here to take on the tough responsibilities while insulating them. Kravstov will be lucky if he is in the top 9 next year let alone a top 6 spot.

You move Strome. You move Buchnevich. You move Skjei. Start moving the chess pieces around rather than stocking the cupboard with big sell offs. Maybe you package Buchnevich and Skjei for someone that fills a big hole. 2 NHL players for 1. Kreider will serve this team and organization better in the years to come then the aforementioned above.

There’s no assumption that Kakko or Kravstov can fulfill that 2LW slot in my part as of right now. This year, and even next year are still developmental years in my opinion.

The one thing JD has repeated over and over during his interviews is patience. He’s gone out of his way to use that word and although nobody wants an endless rebuild, I believe him and Gorton are both taking a cautious approach here.

This team is already competitive and the kids are barely scratching the surface of their potential. I truly believe 21-22 is a year where we can do some damage and I agree, having Kreider will only help us. My concerns with CK aren’t next year, or the season in after that - but beyond.

It’s not easy for some of us to want to see Kreider moved. We become emotionally invested in these players. It started two years ago with guys like McD. Then last year with Zucc.

It sucks watching these guys develop into good players and great teammates, and then see them in different jerseys. It’s going to hurt seeing CK, and maybe even Lundqvist wear a different jersey, but at the end of the day no name is more important than the one on the front of the jersey, and there’s nobody that’ll convince me Kreider is a good investment for this team for the next 7 years at around 50M.

(A) I have no problem with that. I'm embracing it as a fan, however when they talk about being competitive, playing hard, etc. And they employ a coach doesn't seem too patient with the growing pains of a rebuilding team...

(B) You have to have some leadership, that show the way. CK is a leader in NY, and a voice in the room. Who's going to be that for the NYR when he goes.

thanks Nik and I agree with everything you posted. To stay organized I selected only a few points

A - every coach has to coach with urgency. There are no guarantees he’s going to be around long term if he doesn’t win. Tough to lay off and risk remaining secure in your job. He doesn’t have the equity of a Scotty Bowman. He’s a college coach.

B - here in lies the issue IMO. Kreider is the home grown, power forward, playoff experienced veteran yet, the Rangers never named him Captain. He’s in his walk year and it appears two weeks from the deadline Management finally reached and said “let’s talk”. It all adds up to him being gone. Otherwise, he would already be the Captain with a secured contract.

It is possible a Captain is named once he gone. That’s not to say Kreider’s leadership isn’t necessary for this young locker room yet Management has never gave him the title of Captain to truly lead. And he does make the most sense for that role.

The Wild got what people want for Kreider, but for a player with 4 postseasons on his contract.

Yeah, though I think there are a couple of things to remember. Not every team wants or can even handle term. Minnesota didn't retain, though they did offset most of the salary for Pittsburgh by taking by Galchenyuk. Addison is probably a better prospect than we're going to get.

We're still looking at 1st + decent prospect for Kreider... I don't see how anything has changed.

Interesting quote from Carp:
"Will he change his mind and ask to be traded? If so, is there actually a team to which he’d waive his no-move clause?"

Imagine he asks to be traded but refuses to waive his no-trade clause? The **** is he talking about?

was going to say but things in life change. Last time he was asked if he wanted to leave hank was the starting goalie playing every night and the team just started a rebuild. 2 years later he’s glued to the bench and he’s been thru what will be 3 seasons without playoffs. For a guy that’s famous for being a competitor I can’t imagine how sitting on the bench next year (and he will) is going to hit the spot. If he wants to keep playing he needs to leave now.

Speaking of goalies, what are we going to do with Wall? There's a very good possibility that he doesn't sign with us seeing as how his path to the NHL would be severely blocked over the next few years. Could he be a throw in as part of a package?
It seems he is regarded as a good, not great prospect. If he won’t sign, I’m guessing he gets moved before the draft, probably bringing back a third or fourth.

I think of all the players traded and factors, aside from Hank who is at the end of his career and Nash who had his concussion issues, Kreider is the hardest one to replace. The element he brings to this team on the ice is extremely unique. So many teams search endlessly for a player that has the combination of raw talent and physical ability. McDonagh would be 2nd to Kreider imo. You could see Mac’s game starting to decline in the year we traded him. He was getting sloppy. You saw him attempt that cross zone pass in Game 1 of the playoffs that was just a terrible decision and led to CBJ getting on the board. His body took a beating over the years, logging so many minutes. Look at his production this year on a loaded TB team offensively. But I digress. Hayes and Zucc, while it sucked seeing them go, the Rangers could live without them given their age, play, and the timing. I dont know that I can say the same for Kreider.
