Lundqvist is the odd man out.

Jackie Redmond of the NHL Network has a podcast Puck Culture. Ryan Callahan was a guest last Wednesday. Callahan can't see Hank being happy being a 1B guy or a mentor because he is so competitive. He played with and knows him.

Even if the Rangers trade Georgiev, Shesterkin will be the 1A here. Hank wants to be THE guy.

maybe the last straw would be starting either Georgiev or Shesterkin with the other backing him up and Hank not dressing. Waive your trade clause Hank

Hank has more than earned the right to exercise his NMC if he wants, with all he's done for this team.

That being said, please waive it.

Chris Kreider will almost certainly come with 50% retention by the NYR. He will return a #1st rounder (late) and a mid-level prospect. Maybe with a conditional pick involved somehow. This latter scenario is even more probable if the acquiring team needs to dump some salary to the NYR in order to facilitate another move. THIS is not rocket science folks. Supply and demand. And the acquired 1st rounder will more likely than not get moved before/at the draft (maybe being packaged for a bigger Kahuna) for a more finished NHL product.

Would Fast + net us Gauthier? What is the + in that case?
Georgiev maybe nets us a 2nd plus. Maybe he has better summer value with more suitors then?
Think that maybe that is going to be it for NYR at the TDL. Likely there will be other hockey moves by NYR done at the Draft and the rest of the offseason - when draft positions and other intangibles (cap next season...) are better clarified.

That idea is ludicrous....we have enough dead cap space next season without adding another $5M to the total.

flash forward one year (going into 21-22), the dead money should be minimal, Hank and Staal’s high comp will be gone and they Rangers can protect two extra players for that expansion draft.

In the meantime, let it ride. Hank and Staal can dress for the bleachers and watch all season before I’ll buy them out.

is the 50% salary retention that important? Based on a run rate of 82 games Kreider is only getting $1.579 for the rest of the season. At 50% that’s $789,500.

It certainly broadens the possibilities for the purchasing team. Which also opens the market to basically all the presumptive SC contenders, of which several have cap problems, especially if they start trading. That has to be a good thing business wise (i.e. important).

I'd rather have 5.5M of dead cap with 3M free to spend elsewhere than pay Henrik 8.5M to play 25 games behind Shesterkin, while also forcing Georgiev out in a trade.
If Shesty continues as he has been, Georgy is as good as gone....it's similar to the Richter/Beezer "tandem" -- both were too good to be backups.

Probably, but the only reason he is likely to be traded sooner rather than later is because of Lundqvist still having a year left on his contract. If Hank's contract were ending this year, I think there's no doubt that we would re-sign Georgiev and then make the decision on trading him at some later point.

that’s like owning multiple credit cards. Kick it down the road b/c I want it now. Then get blindsided you can’t buy when you really need it. Fortunately for the Rangers, I don’t think they need all the money next year so they can ride this IMO. Not to mention, more kids are on the way and they’ll be learning like Kakko. That extra $3 million isn’t winning the cup.

We need to keep Fast, our forward corps cannot handle losing Kreider, Strome and Fast without getting a roster player in return.

Fast actually scores at a top-6 level when he is played in the top-6, but without PP time his raw totals are kept low so we should be able to sign him to a reasonable deal.

Strome is likely to become our Yanni Gourde if we sign him. Gourde got a long $5M+ deal having great chemistry with Point, but pretty soon they found other line combos working better and Gourde found himself scoring 1.4 P/60 in their bottom-6 (similar to what Strome scored in our bottom-6). He's their 4RW right now and a huge cap problem for them.

What if, in handling a larger workload, Georgiev reveals himself to not be an elite starter, but just a great backup that has hit his prime? What if Shesty isn’t ready to play 50 games a season? We don’t know these things. We’ve only seen either play mostly against less dominant teams, behind a team and under a coach that is playing tighter than they’re used to with Hank.

In regards to 50% retention on CK. With the way he's been playing, I'm only offering that at this point to make a good offer better. It's not a starting point.

this is what has happened every time we’ve given Georgiev the opportunity to run with it for more than 2 games. He’s come up with stinkers.

Imo he’s a very good back up plays well after sitting for a while but doesn’t have the consistency to make runs

Don Maloney spent most of last week in the NY area. He scouted at least two of the four home games. Los Angeles was in town too. The Flames are looking for a right handed shooting forward. Toffoli has been linked to them. Maloney was probably taking taking a look at LA too. Strome would work for the Flames. They could put him on the wing.

What are the Flames giving the Rangers? Zero interest in Bennett and Jankowski. Bennett should have been moved by Calgary one or two years ago. Jankowski scored 31 goals combined in the previous two seasons. He has just 2 this season.

Dillon Dube? Would that work?

The Rangers might be better off giving Strome a one year contract avoiding salary arbitration and they can possibly trade him next February.

I’m really not ready for Hank to go, but it’s time. He will waive his NMC for a team that has a chance this year or next. Carolina, Colorado seem like the only two real options in this case though. Maybe Edmonton/Calgary but those are longshots.

He said he won’t become bigger than the organization, and that’s his final gift to us. He’s a true Ranger and will be forever.

If so, then it’d really be a mistake to pass our best opportunity to sell him off as a potential starter.

I thought he’d have been dealt by now which continues to make me believe they have zero interest in trading him and are pushing hank out

A lot of time to go until the deadline, and a lot of teams out there looking to improve in net. We saw what Toronto paid for Campbell and Clifford. Maybe we weren't willing to sell Georgiev for pennies on the dollar, and I fully support that.

I just don’t know on what planet you get a top 9 young forward for a back up goalie. It’s asking a lot. Which is why I just don’t think they’re all that serious about trading him. They need to be blown away to actually do it.

I really do believe they’re hoping this situation pushes hank to ask for a trade or retire.
