They were top of the league when they made the trade, that's why they did it to help put them in a good spot to win the playoffs.
That was what ..25 or 30ngames into the season? Wasn't buffalo a top team last year 30 games in? Wasn't st Louis in dead last?

It's ok for you to use the historical argument for buffalo but somehow let's ignore that for hall?

There are 2 very legit argument to be made Regarding passing on hall.

1 is his injury history and his general age.

2 is the contract he will command.

Being a winner or a loser is silly. It's the same argument ppl used against me when I wanted Marian hossa and Phil Kessel on this team.

You don't know this.

Not everyone wants to live in New York. You couldn't pay me enough money to move back. For others, it can be a selling point and for the third group, they can be indifferent to where it has no impact either way.
I'd never move to New York. I hate big cities...I don't even like Atlanta. I love living in the burbs. I love being able to take my daughter on a bike ride around the neighborhood with the birds chirping and the quiet. Last time I went to New York I remembered why I hadn't been there in 20 years.

I'm the same but I'm talking about Trouba who wanted his wife to work there and Hank who has never ever wanted to leave. My question is why did we pay top dollar, top term, and give NMC to two guys who didnt want to go anywhere else? That's my question.

He publicly said his wife wanted to work in NY, that's why he left Winnipeg.
Tell me Girardi, Staal, Lundqvist wanted to move and I'll call you a liar.

What does this have to do with anything? You are still presuming that they wouldn't have left. Maybe they didn't want to move but for an extra 6 million over 6 years they would have gone elsewhere. You are making a lot of assumptions and presenting them as if they were viable options. Not to mention, three of those deals were negotiated by the previous GM.

With regards to Trouba, that is great but he still has leverage. NY just gave up assets to obtain his rights. Clearly we wanted him. That gives Trouba and his agent leverage. There are also other teams in the NY metro area. We weren't the only option if a deal couldn't be worked out.

As someone who didn't want Trouba, who advocated against Trouba for 2+ years, even I can admit we paid a cheap price to obtain his rights and signed him to a fair contract.

I'm going to say this then leave it alone, you are asking questions and then answering them later in your post.

Happens once, it's a coincidence, happens twice, there might be something to it. You join a team at the top of the league, who traded for you to push them to a cup and the team free falls then you start looking at the player. Eichel has always played with Buffalo, it's not the same.

Then they should have had him signed before they traded for him. When did i ask a question then answer it?

I find people who lived there or grew up there tend to have a much harsher view than those who "discover" New York as they get older.

Which is somewhat ironic because growing up everyone outside of the city thought it was a warzone like "Escape from New York."

Now, the number of people wanting to go there is insane.

So what are people thinking with Georgiev out tonight along with Bracco being scratched?
Would be pleasantly surprised if Gorton was able to get both Kapanen and Bracco for Georgiev.

Expecting Trouba to be signed before he was traded to us is flat out unrealistic.

Why did we give NMC's to two guys who didn't want to go anywhere else? You really can't see it?

Why give them all three is the question, NMC, +Top Dollar, + a long term deal. Couldnt we win on one of those? Hey, ya we will give you a long term deal but its gotta be less money or we cant give you a NMC. OR maybe you take less money on a long term deal with a NMC. Nooooo, here I'll just bend over and give you all three. Why negotiate at all, just tell them to make the contract themselves.

They were a team with no offense. Not a great defense and out of this world goaltending.

Their goalies got hurt.

They sank like a rock.

Halls fault.

Their goalies were hurt before that but nice try, Raanta is back now. Their offense was supposed to get a boost with Hall instead of going backwards.

Yeah I was born in Manhattan. We moved to Staten island when I was like 6..then to NJ when I was like 12...and then I moved to Atlanta at 23. Eventually I'll be living on Mars i guess.

Oddly enough I'm pretty social, I have a good group of friends, etc. But I hate congestion, I hate traffic, I hate lotsa noise. I think being someone who doesn't drink and really never has, has made me very anti city. Unfortunately if something needs alcohol to be enjoyable, I don't see the point.

Eh, I get what you're saying, but that's kind of like saying if food needs spice to be eaten, then it wasn't a good dish. ;)

Personally, there are things I like and things I don't like about NYC. But everything comes with a trade off. I've always been fairly adaptable to my surroundings, so I have no problem starting my day in my small town, surrounded by farms, and finishing my day in Times Square.

What I find interesting about a lot of people who leave NY is that even when it's "not for them" or they pursue other paths in life, they are almost always identifiable as New Yorkers. It might manifest itself in different ways, some more subtle than others. But I can usually tell pretty quickly if someone is from NY, even if they've lived elsewhere for years.

Everything is a hypothetical, maybe we win a cup without Hank because we could have added a goal scorer. What we did didn't work, you can't know how things would have ended up if we did something differently. The only fact that remains is that paying a goalie 8.5 a year didnt yield us a cup, it never does in the NHL, and his contract will likely cost us a young goalie in Georgiev unless he accepts a trade, he won't.
You mean to tell me paying top dollar for #1 goaltenders doesnt win you cups?

This absolutely the most bizarre and wild takes regarding Hank and his contract. Bizarre. All in hindsight.

shit man i wish we had a crystal ball for every single move we made. Contract signings to waiver pickups. But hey CAM f***ING TALBOT...he wouldve projected much better and won us a cup for pennies on the dollar. And he also would have signed a team friendly contract...

Girardi, Staal...all of them should have signed team friendly contracts and left money on the table because they love NY so much.

Bizarre

Yeah that's for sure. When I fold my pizza I always get new Yorker comments from strangers... Especially now that I'm vegan and go cheeseless lol.

Hall is basically a ppg player since he got there...there is not a single player on that team whose even close to that pace. But I'm gonna bow out of this Convo. Feel free to keep trashing him. I don't want him on the rangers for various other reasons. And I think anyone who pays him is gonna regret it. But if he goes to a team like Pittsburgh he's gonna win a cup... Or 2... Even if it comes right before their eventual collapse.

Im thinking if Gorton caves and accepts Bracco for Georgiev i will shit a brick.

They need to come away with Kapanen. If he isnt on the table you hold onto GG, watch Toronto get bounced AGAIN, Frederik Andersen get another year older as a very average #1 goaltender, and watch the city of Toronto force Dubas’ hand to trade for Georgiev since he is young with potential, team control, and a cap hit that they can absorb as they navigate their situation.

I'm with you. I don't see him as a fit here, but there are a number of teams who potentially will have the space next season who could get a significant ROI.

I want nylander...I want us to expand the trade to get him... Georgiev fasth and buch for nylander?

Well, Girardi, Staal and Lundqvist were under a different GM. I'm not going to waste time debating Sather's moves as he is no longer our GM.

There's a rumor out of Toronto that Dubas is getting desperate and is going to pull the trigger on Kapanen and Bracco for Georgiev. No picks. Take it for what its worth but Georgiev being pulled against a team he's performed well against and Bracco being scratched is something to note. Wouldn't surprise me if something is brewing. Have to think that Toronto is starting to panic.
