My favorite line in the movie.

I was part of the real story that inspired Slapshot. I only wish I had hung around for another year in a Syracuse so I could have been part of the movie.

Do tell. I remember that Nancy Dowd was inspired by her brother Ned on the Johnstown Jets. Filmed in the War Memorial in Syracuse I think.

It will be difficult, if not impossible, but the Rangers...

This is interesting. All season, Carp has made it clear that IHO, Kreider would be traded by the deadline. No wiggle. Now today, pretty much a 180. Someone is whispering in his ear.

I know it doesn't take much to start negotiations but I find it odd if the Rangets mindset is to try to resign him that conversation hasn't started yet, a bit more then 3 weeks from the deadline.

I found this piece of the article interesting as it seems like it came from one of your posts or one from @Edge.

The Rangers are going to have to shed some salaries at the deadline or this summer, whether it’s Kreider’s or other players’ contracts. The cap is just too tight. They are going to be entertaining offers for Tony DeAngelo (headed for a big payday), for Brady Skjei (and his long contract, especially with so many young lefty defensemen in the system), for Alexandar Georgiev (and the three-goalie logjam), Ryan Strome, Jesper Fast, maybe Pavel Buchnevich. And who knows? Maybe this is the year, too, when they deal some of their prospects (assets, really) to fill other needs.
Whatever moves they make, in February or in June, will be intertwined, obviously. They cannot re-sign DeAngelo, for example, without dumping contracts off their cap. Or Kreider. They will have to make a corresponding move to keep pretty much any of the above.

Did you read it? It's all Carpiniello's opinion. He wants Kreider to stay. I read his stuff too. He has wanted the Rangers to keep Kreider all along but it will be tough with their other commitments and the type of contract Kreider will garner as a free agent. He wrote the same thing again last night. He wrote Kreider will have to accept a hometown discount. Carpiniello wants the Rangers to build around Zibanejad, Panarin, Kreider and Trouba.

Edge wrote that.

At a bare minimum this is what needs to happen before July 1st:
  • Kreider dealt before the deadline if they cannot agree on an extension that is less than 7 years and less than $7MM AAV.
  • Fast traded before the deadline if they cannot agree on an extension that is less than 5 years and less than $3MM AAV.
  • Staal bought out ($2.2MM savings).
  • Smith bought out ($1.6MM savings).
  • Either Georgiev traded OR Lundqvist:
    • Retires
    • Gets bought out
    • Waives his NTC and gets traded.
Those will determine what happens with ADA, Strome, Buch et al. Probably add into the above trade Skjei but that is more an opinion on my part then a need.

"if I’m the Rangers, I’m trying really hard in the next couple of weeks to find a way to keep Kreider."

Clearly an opinion piece. Do not let your opinion get in the way of the truth.

So is 6x6 on Kreider a discount ?

I’d still trade him regardless
I have no idea but my sense is 5x$6m is a discount. 6x6 would be fair but I don’t think the Rangers go for six years. Even five might be a stretch.

Has anyone done the math for 2021 - 2022?
We currently have 14 million allocated...doesn't that leave close to 76 million in cap space?
i am good at math but not cap space math
