If the lowest Kreider will accept is 7x7 (likely with some sort of NMC), do you...

  • Trade him

  • Sign him

  • Rent him for the playoffs and let him walk as a UFA

Also I propose that anyone who votes for option #3 on the poll gets banned.

I can't vote in good conscience since I don't know what the moves we're looking at beyond Kreider are. Personally, I've maintained all through the season that I wouldn't be against re-signing Kreider at that price. I also wouldn't want to keep him with that contract if the Rangers were also committed to adding good players in his stead.

That might seem like a 'duh' take, but this org. has made really bad and iffy evaluations consistently, and specifically in the areas we most need to shore up (shut down defensemen and cheap, capable bottom six forwards)...

so it is a 'duh' take after all. Point being that I'll be very sad to see Kreider go, but I have long accepted the inevitability and the prudence of that happening. I just hope they have a plan, not necessarily to replace him (which, how can you?), but to keep building where they really need to.

Wonder what JG and JD have pencilled in for 2 years from now. That’s the best way to look at this after all the dead cap and dead-weight vets are shed.

X- zibanejad - Kakko
Panarin Chytil X
Lemeiux X Kravstov
X Howden X

X Trouba
Lindgren Fox
Miller X

Kravtsov is probably on line 2 in 2 years from now.

Hot take:

Rookie Fox is having the best season of any Ranger D since the lock out.
Think that is a very fair take. Staal was great his rookie season too but was that before the lockout or after?

edit - read it too fast and thought this was just rookie seasons by dmen.

Can’t wait to get the next lias Jessiman Mcilrathsov and a b prospect for Kreider who’ll score 25 plus goals and provide playoff production and leadership for the rest of his career . Maybe we’ll get some magic beans As a throw in

it’s possible the Rangers botch up the return yet let’s hope not.

Let’s remember though, the Rangers haven’t been in the playoffs since 2016/17. That playoff Kreider played in 12 games where he netted only 3 goals with 1 assist. It’s been a 5 years since his real playoff contributions. I don’t question his leadership yet the Rangers never handed him the C.

Based on the above, maybe moving Kreider makes the most sense considering this is a rebuild. Unless those magic beans you speak of will change history and suddenly Kreider will become the Rangers future Messier.

If there's a draft to stockpile picks for this is certainly the draft to do it. These guys will be a few years away but when you look at that 2018 draft it really is crazy the Rangers drafted 3 legitimate blue chip guys, 2 of which in the 2nd half of the first round and in the 20s.
Saw Ottawa gm on nhl network saying the top 66 kids are really good this year.

Sort of off topic, but the Rangers' play really started to take off after Howden was used more in a 4th line role and Staal started to be deployed as a 6th D.

After, but I'm talking all D, not just rookies.

Like MH said, 13-14 McDonagh is really the only one who has an argument and he had a much better team around him.

Plus Fox has basically been God since December.

The results at 7x7 are more decisive than I would’ve guessed (at least so far).

The geek in me is curious how that changes at 7x6.5, 7x6, 6x7, so and so forth. And no I am necessarily suggesting everyone be subjected to that ringer. Although, if there is a willingness...

Oh sorry, I read that too fast....I don't know about any D in any season after the lockout, that might be a reach (McD was dominate a couple of those years playing 24 minutes), but as a rookie I still think it's him and that is HIGH praise beating out McD and Staals rookie years IMO.

I voted no on 7 X $7MM.

I also think that’s an offer that may not be on the table anywhere. I am aware of all the comparables, all of the salary cap situations of desireable teams, Kreider’s age and his upsides and downsides.

I also suspect the current news blackout indicates there are ongoing conversations.

It’s going to be fewer years or fewer dollars.

I’m keeping my fingers crossed.

Or the rumors of contract dialogue are to stimulate some better offers?

Could be both things...

See my post earlier in the thread where I used G/GP over that time and made it 200GP minimum. You see a much clearer picture in my eyes and it's pretty much Anders Lee with the Islanders. That deal was also done after 7/1 and he could have gone anywhere. There was word he never intended to go anywhere, but that option was still there if they didn't hammer the details out.

7x7 without a NMC, but a NTC, or 7x6.5 with a NMC for the first 6 and a very restricted NTC the last year.
Anders Lee was headed to the Blackhawks. While the Islanders toyed with Panarin, he was ready to move. He’s a Notre Dame alum. When the Panarin deal fell apart, the Islanders had to go back with a bigger offer to keep him from getting away. The Blackhawks already had a press release ready to go.

That’s not necessary at this point. If he is made available, the whole world will know.
I'm not doubting that they know. He's the player every outlet is talking about, but if teams sense nyr may be considering keeping him and the top rental may come off the market a team or teams may up their offer to land CK rather than hope Hoffman is available or move on to a 3rd tier type rental.

I mean we've heard the "possible resigning" thing before prior to the deadline before a player is moved. I say this while also acknowledging that him resigning is a possiblity.
