The odds of a 4 1st round pick sheet are next to none.

8x10 on the other hand, is a very reasonable cost and deal for a 22 year old 1C who is only going to get better and better.

Problem is that the Nucks probably match, and then you've accumulated a bunch of bad clout for nothing.
Can we offer 8 years or is 7 the max? Would 12x7 still be in the realm of workable? Its a lot of money but he's one hell of a player and I think it might take upwards of 12 to stop the nucks from matching.

The upper limit of 2 1sts, a 2nd, and a 3rd at 7x10.27 still puts van in an almost impossible cap situation. There’s a chance we might not even have to go up to 4 1sts territory

It's true that Petersson at his age at 10M for 7 years vs Eichel with his neck at 10M for 5 years is more attractive.

I also have to imagine that our next 4 picks should be trending in the 18-32 range. Now, 1st round picks are still important to sustain success, and there's obviously great players found in the late first all the time but... given our timeline... I'd rather move 4 unknown 1sts than Chytil, Lundkvist, Kravtsov, etc.

So IF we're hell bent on acquiring an elite 1C, I would support going the 4x1st offer sheet route over trading for Captain Jack.

Well at 10 it wouldn't be 4 firsts.

I'd OS him at just below the 4 pick threshold.

There is almost no harm in offer-sheeting Vancouver. When is the last time we dealt with Vancouver anyway? By the time there is a risk of them offer-sheeting one of our RFAs, Jim Benning will be long gone.

Those late 1sts aren't going to be NHL players for a few years after those drafts anyways, so that 4th 1st won't be in the NHL for probably 7 years from now. I'd rather keep all our young guys and have are window wide open with Panarin than make the team temporarily worse until those even younger guys develop. Everything might not line up that way and we might stay around a 8-12th best team in the league in that case

Benning and Vancouver has made some mistakes with the contracts they took on. Even a guy like Schmidt. At the time most were like wow what a great deal. Now they are realizing having him for 6 million for another 4 years with a NMC is not good when you have your young stars to sign.
Do not sign Landeskog do not sign Danault. unless they are willing to come for a discount and shorter term.

We have thrown offer sheets out there before. It doesn’t seem that uncommon, it’s just uncommon that they get signed and even more uncommon that they go unmatched
i think in nhl history there has been less then 50 offer sheets ever tendered

only one has ever been in the same stratosphere as us offering elias 8 x 11 mil and that was shea weber....nashville of all teams matched his offer
