Here is the thing with the rebuild, right after the letter was issued, the following occurred over a 3 year period:

• Zibanejad went from a 2C to an elite level 1C, having the highest goals per game in the league in 19-20.
• They signed a Hart Trophy finalist that has one of the highest points per game output in the league
• Traded for a 23 year old Norris Trophy winner
• Won two lotteries getting the #2 and #1 picks in back to back years
• Made 6 first round picks in a 3 year window, with two later 1sts about to comprise 33% of their defense this upcoming season.
• Signed one of the best goalies that was outside of the NHL to his ELC.
• Hit on multiple trades either involving player swaps (Strome) or prospects (Lindgren)

The foundation is already in place and has been for the past two years. It's time to begin making moves to go push for the playoffs and even more than that. If that doesn't happen now, we're just trying to be the Sabres, Devils and Coyotes. We don't want to do that.

The foundation has cracks without long term center help. Surely there must be some middle ground between "go for it all now because Kreider and Panarin are 29" and "tank like Buffalo forever."

What is the love affair some of you have with Buch? Kakko, Laf, Kravtsov, Panarin need top 6 min. $6 for Buch on the 3rd line is too much when we have holes in the middle of the ice.

But WHaT abOuT KreidER? The organization obviously thought his role on the team was too important to let him walk.

Seriously. Anyone who thought Buch was getting a long term deal with Panarin & Kreider signed and 3 top 10 picks at wing coming off their ELCs in the next 2 years was in denial. As for the return, yeah, it stunk, but after seeing Sam Reinhart, a better player with more of a pedigree, get a future 1st and a so-so goalie prospect idk what people were expected.

And anyone who complained about the kids ice time last year really cannot complain about this move. It needed to be done to give them meaningful minutes, how else was it going to happen?

Im not here to bootlick Drury because it was ultimately not a good move at all, but the die was cast when they signed Kreider and drafted Lafreniere. It is what it is. The constant crying over a guy who never cracked 50 points in his career, is a bit much imo

I love what he's done. Buch, Strome, Howden and Blackwell drove me f***ing nuts last year. I wanted to fire all 4 of them into the sun. Top 6 has tons of skill, Bottom 6 has tons of size and grit. I love it. Let's all hold judgments until the season starts.

It's still too much for an eventual third liner here once Kakko and Kravtsov pass him. Yeah, at that price, probably moveable once it becomes unaffordable.

But again the issue is not that he was moved in my book. It's the garbage return.

Well Nemeth is good and MacDermid is one of the absolute worst players in the entire league.
