Some of these rumors would make this the shortest rebuild ever...because once we started building the foundation we decided to implode it all together before letting the foundation get a chance to set.

Here is the thing with the rebuild, right after the letter was issued, the following occurred over a 3 year period:
  • Zibanejad went from a 2C to an elite level 1C, having the highest goals per game in the league in 19-20.
  • They signed a Hart Trophy finalist that has one of the highest points per game output in the league
  • Traded for a 23 year old Norris Trophy winner
  • Won two lotteries getting the #2 and #1 picks in back to back years
  • Made 6 first round picks in a 3 year window, with two later 1sts about to comprise 33% of their defense this upcoming season.
  • Signed one of the best goalies that was outside of the NHL to his ELC.
  • Hit on multiple trades either involving player swaps (Strome) or prospects (Lindgren)
The foundation is already in place and has been for the past two years. It's time to begin making moves to go push for the playoffs and even more than that. If that doesn't happen now, we're just trying to be the Sabres, Devils and Coyotes. We don't want to do that.

The fear of getting stuck in rebuilding in perpetuity is real.

At some point, you need to shift focus to adding finishing touches.

Elite level players? Check

Elite level prospects? Check

Good support players? Check

Competent complimentary players? Check

A HC with a winning pedigree and an understanding of today's players? Check.

I'd see what I can add for free, but we are at the stage where we should want/expect more from the group understanding that there WILL be disappointments and setbacks along the way as failure is and has always been the best teacher.

It'd be like Pittsburgh drafting Crosby and Malkin, then saying "f*** it" and building around Lemieux, Recchi, and Palffy.

trade Georgiev to the Stars for Radek Faksa for center depth. he is a checking center with bite and good on faceoffs. makes 3.25 until summer of 2025 when he is UFA

Rangers get Radek Faksa
Stars get Alex Georgiev

with their goaltending issues this would be a great trade for both teams. Stars can use goalie depth.

Uh I'm not trading Strome and Chytil for Gourde.

Already been addressed but yea understand but chytll if everything came together in that way would have to go somewhere don't know what his value is. Also Seattle is in need of centers maybe a deal would be expanded but it's all just what it's. We are jonesing for news or at least some sort of vision of what the team will look like.

The rebuild is over fellas, hate to break it to you
Yea, but signing a 10M AAV center and 9M AAV left winger will put us in cap hell and we will end up losing the young talent we just acquired. You can’t have Landeskog and Mika and Panarin and Fox all making 9M plus, while paying Trouba 8 and Kreider 6.5. That’s over 50 million in cap space, it’s over 60% of the cap in 6 players and half of them play the same f***ing position.

I'm not sure that this is possible for Vegas with their cap issues but it seemed to me that someone posted a three way deal that may have made the most sense, especially if Buffalo's fans are now down to a deal of like, expecting Rossi, Boldy, Fiala and a first.

NYR out: Zibanejad, Strome, 2022 1st (lottery protected), Z. Jones
NYR in: Eichel

Vegas out: Krebs, 2022 1st
Vegas in: Zibanejad

Buffalo out: Eichel
Buffalo in: Strome, 2022 1st (NYR), Z. Jones, Krebs, 2022 1st (LVK)

Something like that.

Of course if the plan is to have Zibanejad and Eichel then this plan is moot, but if the plan is to avoid the contract decision on Zibanejad, reset your age clock at center, and keep most of your young prospects, this would fit the bill.

I also think a 3-way deal might be the best chance this gets done. It’s been said Drury wants to keep Zibby as well. If this is the case he needs to be comfortable with a Eichel Danault, Chytil Or Eichel -???- Chytil center situation for the next 5 years. You don’t want to go 1 step forward and 2 steps back, even if that step fwd is a giant step

Trouba wanted out in Winnipeg because he didn’t want to play the left side.
It was one of the things that most upset him. I think here, he would move if the team really wanted him to, now that he got his way and was traded and signed his big deal.
I think it was mostly used as another reason why he wanted to be traded. But I’d rather keep Trouba on the right anyway. He’s better there. Sorry about the emojis, I hit them by accident, now I can’t delete

Save the powder, the Cap could be flat for another 3-4 seasons at least.

Wasn’t long ago we had zero RHS with any kind of ability to move the puck. Since then we got Trouba and THREE guys who has been involved in the top 15-20 in scoring in TDA, Fox and Pionk, and we two top prospects at that position too in Lundkvist and Schneider.

Before those 6 RHS, who was the best puck mover we had at RD since Zubov?

Here are the top scorers since Zubov left at RD:

Who would have thought that we right after signing Shatty basically would be — flooded — with RDs?

I am not saying that we will be flooded with top centers in two years. But things change very very rapidly in this sport. The only way to hedge against that is to have flexibility. We have a bunch of long term commitments and a bunch of kids that might require long term commitment.

If Strome is a goner and Goodrow is the presumptive 3C, that leaves one 2C slot open and one Filip Chytil.

Does that mean they see him as their 2C heading into the season? Or does it mean he's likely on the trade block too?
