I think Strome really upped his defensive game last year. I came around to him this past season. No idea if it’s a trend or an aberration but he was a pretty complete player - last year at least. In my opinion. Up til last year I wanted Strome gone for anything. Now I think he’s an asset.I would rather have “limited offensive contributions” at a more productive rate than Strome without being an absolute liability everywhere else on the ice. I’m also curious what you think happens next year when Strome demands to be paid like a 60-70 point player

This place. Charts and graphs showing Nemeth as one of the best. Then Wings and Avs fans saying he's a moron that can't microwave a pizza pop. Give Danault $6.65M/6Yr to with NMC in the first five then 10 team NTC in the final year and let him play with Panarin. He wants good lineys and ice time, he'll get that here. Stick with Zib on a 6 year extension in the $8.5M range. Trade Strome to Vegas for their 1st next year. Hold onto Georgiev until the deadline when his value will be higher when there aren't 12 goalies available plus he'll rebound this year. Sign a face puncher that can at least skate for 2X$1.5M or so and start the year with a player and a half on the 4th line that you wouldn't want there and let them come up with injuries and stuff. With Buch and Blackwell, Howden, and PDG gone, we'll have more ice time for everyone. Danualt will become a 70 point guy with Bread. Zib Danualt Chytil can be good enough to win for a few years until Zib drops off. Hopefully Chytil and whatever else help we can find in the future on C will ben able to balance the book and replace some of Zib's production on an ELC or something. Maybe draft centers in the first 2 rounds next year and a high upside center in the 3rd round and hope 1 pans out by 2026 and comes in on an ELC.
He could still catch somewhere, but even if we dealt a D prospect or two there’s just no space for him to break in.Had high hopes for Rykov. Reminder not to count your chickens before they hatch.

I didn’t even notice Donato on the list. He isn’t really a fit for us now but maybe a couple years ago. I don’t really know what he does well but he seems to be fairly productive.Three teams have moved on from Donato in pretty short time, while he posted ok numbers. Is he still worth a look?
When meme's become realityMany have wanted Khaira, he's a UFA now.
Also where is Vince getting signing Landeskog as a center? Has he ever played that position on a regular basis in the NHL?
Edit: he's taken 500-650 faceoffs each season for the past 3 years and 2 of those have been shortened due to covid. He's actually pretty good, he's been at 56% the last 2 years. I know that's just 1 aspect of being a center but I was not anticipating that.
Krejci is 35. Bellemare is 36 and Ritchie skates about as well as Colton Orr and to be at all effective will need the power play time I think most of us would like to give to Laf and Kakko.
he is no where near those players offensively. Tatar Danault Gallagher has always been one of the strong 5v5 lines. He is essentially a passenger on offense but his good defense helps the wingers to their thing.View attachment 456517
This reminds me of the way people on HF classify players. Even though there’s literally 93 (now 96) players technically playing on the 1st line in the NHL at any time, and another 93 playing on the 2nd line, posters here act like there’s about 50 “ACTUAL” 1st liners in the league, 50 2nd liners in the league, etc. 372 forwards and apparently 272 of them are bottom six.
You can be the 35th most productive player at your position and on HF you’ll be a “fringe top six” player. In fact, does anyone wanna guess where 45 points in 70 games ranked last year? 27th for all LW. 17th for all RW. 40th for all C. But to most posters that’s “third line production”. 52 point pace was good for 27th best LW, 17th best RW.
At HF people act like point per game or better is apparently “average” 1st liner. Second liners are 70+. Third liners are 50+. Everyone else is a 4th liner… in reality, the 93rd most productive forward (31 teams x 3 players on the 1st line) last year had .6 points per game. Basically an exactly 50 point pace. First line. Last year it was .65 points per game. 186th forward in points per game (cut off for 2nd line)? .38 points per game. Last year it was .43.
HF is the only place in the world you can hear “I don’t know if Zib is a #1 on a real contender; more like a great #2” while he’s like 3rd in goals per game in the league (he’s literally tied for 3rd in goals and 15th in points per game over the past two years combined) AND 10th among all centers in PK time, at the same time.

Yeah I find it very hard to imagine he wouldn't already be playing center in Colorado if it was possible. He's already taking 500-700 faceoffs a year, obviously he's good at them. Clearly he'd just be a center if it were possible. When meme's become reality

Guess you missed the past season.Danault is a defensive center, 3rd liner. N
Zib/Strome/Chytil- I se no problem in maintaining.
Question - have either Schneider or Nils played any left side during their careers? Or have they strictly been right side?
I know our season ended almost 2 and a half months ago but I feel like a number of posters forgot about all the shortcomings this team had last year. They think bulking up the bottom 6 is going to solve everything. Aside from point production our center play last year was mediocre at best and deficient in a lot of areas. If this team truly wants to take a step forward and have the kids continue to improve then we need a change/upgrade at center. Strome is the more logical one to go.I would rather have “limited offensive contributions” at a more productive rate than Strome without being an absolute liability everywhere else on the ice. Sorry for my ignorance but has Landeskog been on Mack's wing for the past several years? Mack is pretty bad on draws so it would make sense that Landeskog would take a bunch. Also clearly Mack is the better skater/better center, so it also makes sense that they wouldn't swap positions just because Landeskog was taking the draws. They already had MacKinnon/Kadri and before that MacKinnon/Duchene. Even if he could, by putting him at center they'd be forced to move someone into the top six that shouldn't be there. Now, maybe they should have done so in the playoffs after Kadri got suspended. WPG has done it many times with Wheeler. At the same time, the playoffs may not be the right time for an experimental move like that.
