I’d like Zadorov instead, but apparently he expects too much money
I think there are quite a few cheap LD’s out there better than Nemeth

Zadorov would cost twice as much and be twice as bad. Just because he had a Girardi cough it up shift while matched with a low hockey IQ partner (Graves) in a 2nd pairing matchup, doesn't make Nemeth bad.

I wonder why the org soured on B.Smith... looking for a new leadership structure? He seemed to play his part well.. I wonder what his demands were
Maybe he doesn't want to be a 7th D? I definitely don't want Nils to be playing with Smith consistently.

Would you entertain that if you had gourde? youd retain 4 years of his contract at 50% for a pending ufa that nyr cant seem to give away for 2 years? i mean come on...

gourde is easily the more coveted player even if even up. this board isnt the only place that sees how valuable of a player he is...
I wouldn't. I also wouldn't have selected the slop that they did as well

They want to utilize cap for assets it seems.

and I confused his contract with Johnsons, 3 years instead of 4

What’s not to like big physical pker solid analytics 28 years old Swedish (I believe he won a WJC gold with Mika) perfect mentor and stay at home guy for Lundkvist to slide next to

I mean literally what else do you want? Even the cap numbers look good

Some people have no concept of how to evaluate players past "I saw them make some bad plays once and they really super duper suck because of it"

Chytil should have a break out year. He's our 2C. It's why I'm not against signing him to 6 years this offseason to a bargain.

Also giving Coleman, Buch type money.... oof. I like Coleman but that's another disaster contract. It's just not needed for this team.
I would love Coleman here. Would fit awesome with Panarin and Strome (if Strome is staying). Coleman certainly fits the “tougher to play against” narrative too and bring the cup winning experience that Buchnevich didn’t. If we are stuck with Zibanejad and Strome again, it’s a pretty smart move and you can move Coleman around lines a bit if necessary. Said it at the time but would have rather skipped Goodrow and just signed Coleman. Coleman around 5 is better than Goodrow around 3.whatever

I have to say I like the fact that certain gms are helping players they are going to move on from by allowing them to talk to other teams before ufa officially opens. I think that is such a quality move to help those players get a jump on the market and find a home if the gm isn't going to resign them.

Ed if we wanted someone to run around and not defend we would have kept smith. Zadorov is not the right guy. Nemeth is literally perfect for what we need couldnt pick a better guy to put next to Lundkvist

A lot of people are unhappy with the return for Buch - and while unfortunate, I think it tends to be human nature to let something like that taint your view of every move that happens afterwards.
I understand completely. He was my wife and 5 year sons favorite player. Understood he had to be moved and it sucks. We aren’t going to win in every trade but people are gloom and doom when we don’t. It is the consistent negativity with the signings/draft picks and trades which is unbearable lately. Half these posters have no idea what bad moves are since they weren’t alive during the dark ages. Now those were some god awful moves.

This board is starting to turn into a cesspool. Everyone (including me) didn't like the return package for Buch. I would have been fine if it included a 1st round pick, but it didn't. I feel that because we all soured on that trade it's carrying over to every move Drury will make moving forward. I'm ok with the Nemeth pick, its low risk, high reward. If we plays well he stays in the lineup, if he doesn't he'll be the 7th D or sent down.
