Nemeth is a perfectly fine defenseman and if we need to move him after this year or after year 2 assuming he gets 3 years it shouldn't be that tough to do.

so Strome for D no longer makes sense unless Rangers are moving a LHD like Lindgren or Miller which is pretty much not happening

Guerin breaking in to Buffalo's front office looking for Eichel's medicals.

WildWing gate.

Pius Suter anyone? May be in interesting option if he doesn’t get qualified by Chicago.

Now the question is, since the vet LHD is solved for, what is Strome dealt for?

My theory is that NYR will wait to trade Strome (Assuming they do) until they have formally signed one of the UFA centers.

Of course, they could always just extend Strome instead of going to the UFA market, but I'd put that at only about 10% odds since Drury wants to put his identity on the team.

So quick little breakdown here:

Buchnevich, Blackwell, Howden, Smith out

Blais, Goodrow, Nemeth in

Time will always tell but nothing that is making me overly enthusiastic about this off season here…..

That’s disingenuous though.

Howden = Blais
Blackwell = Goodrow
Buchnevich = full year of Kravtsov
Smith = Nemeth
Bitetto/Hajek = Lundkvist

Or, more accurately:

Howden < Blais
Blackwell < Goodrow
Buchnevich > Rookie Kravtsov
Smith =< Nemeth
Bitetto/Hajak < Lundkvist

Everywhere is an upgrade except for rookie Kravtsov. We'll see how he progresses. We also should have better seasons from all of the kids.

Kravtsov was ALWAYS the heir apparent and eventual replacement for Buchnevich. It was always going to be one or the other and after the season Buch had we pretty much KNEW we weren’t going to devote the cap it would take to keep Buch to another winger.

Kravtsov played 20 games on the 4th line last year. You have to look at the full season of Kravtsov as the “replacement” for Buch. But the idea has always been that the #1, 2 & 9 picks were going to have to take on bigger roles and replace production from more established guys as we managed the cap going forward. That’s what’s happening.

A full year of Kravtsov, Chytil year 4, Kakko year 3, Laf year 2. The offense should not suffer a drop. Different coach as well; the kids may very well breakout a bit. Who knows.

Miller year 2 on D. Adding Lundkvist rather than Bitetto/Hajek, swapping Smith for Nemeth.

Honestly the team is better than it was last year. Every move is a disaster right now because we overpaid Goodrow 300k and got a 2nd instead of a 1st for Buch.

Nobody wants Strome it’s uncanny
For the same reasons we want to move on from him. He doesn't give a crap about exerting any effort on defense. He's ideally a 3C on a good team but will be looking to get paid like a 2C.

It's hard to imagine a winning hockey team with Ryan Strome as their 2C. It's very easy to imagine him as a 2C on a bad team and racking up points.

There are definitely teams out there that want him. Think it's just a question of its a return the Rangers want. I just wonder what the signing of Nemeth does to the return package.

I also think the Rangers should talk to Vegas in taking Fluerys contract. Just 1 year at $7MM.

I’ll believe it when I see it. Been on the trade block for two years we almost walked away for nothing. Can’t get anything for him.

Would Fluery for a conditional 2022 #1 (based on playoff performance IE make it to the conference finals) make sense? If they don't make it becomes a 2nd.

Lundkvist, Kravtsov in.

We're also going to add at least one forward in UFA.

I can certainly imagine him as a top 6 Right Wing on a winning team though.
