I'd like to see Barron get a shot, but I don't see where he would fit in. I figure they'll sign 2 vets to push the kids in camp and then maybe take a spot in HFD, but I think it makes more sense for Barron to get top AHL minutes than spot 4th-line duty.

If Strome gets traded, it could open up some more options where he could take on a 3rd line role.

Laf - Zib - Kakko
Panarin - Strome - Goodrow
Kreider - Chytil - Kravtsov
Blais - Rooney - Gauthier
13th F vet

no question I agree with 95% written above. But Zibby hasn’t been the same player since his upper body injury which we all knew was a concussion. Which is pretty crazy because he played very well after, but he wasn’t the same tenacious player on defense, and you see he goes to lengths to avoid contact when possible more then he used to. I’m worried if we lock him in to that deal, and he gets his bell rung again, what type of player are we going to see for the remainder of the deal?
No question he’s still a 1C and has one of the best sl-appers/one timers in the NHL. But I’m talking about all the other facets of his game. He still pays the price to move the puck when needed, but it’s become less over the last 2 seasons. His defense is also noticeably worse. I’m not slamming him, he’s great for us but these are just a couple observations and worries about 7 years 70 mill- even 6 years 60 mill if he would somehow agree to that, but I find it highly unlikely.

hasn’t been the same? You mean the year he finished with 75 in 57 games and had the most goals per game in the league?

last year was Covid everyone knows that. And he still put up 50 in 56.

that upper body injury didn’t slow him down

No Dvorak mention? I like him too so I say it with love.

Yeah I think Barron is 50/50 but could force the issue in camp. I think Strome is gone, Chytil moves up and they bring in a vet to compete with Barron for that spot

The whole thing with Zib is that they need to be clear about term and contract structure. If he wants an AAV anywhere near his ask, it has to be on a contract of no more than 5 years, and that contract needs to be VERY buyout friendly (like, he should get most of the money in the first two or three years). We have the cap space to pay him right now. We just need to make sure there is a cheap escape hatch build in for the moment that he's too expensive for what he brings. If he wants term, AAV, and backloaded, then we just can't make it work. At that point, talk to him about where he might prefer to go/be willing to waive his NMC, and tell him we'll see what we can do by the TDL.

That's what I'm thinking, if the deal is there for Strome.

Goodrow gives us some flexibility in rearranging the lineup.

Well this guy is a moron.

Ottawa’s draft is being laughed out of the building by the entire Hockey world. MTL humiliated themselves.

Corey Pronman gave us a C. Sporting News gave us a C.

We had an average, in an average draft.

Not if you understand the team Ott is trying to build. He fits perfectly

I love Panarin and he's probably the best player I've ever seen in a Rangers jersey but damn did signing him force us to do a massive 180 on the direction of the franchise. From that day on the goal is to now win a Cup in his prime years which turned a 5-7 year timeline into a ~3 year window.

We wouldn't be anywhere near the Eichel sweepstakes either.

It can not be overstated how important and lucky it was that we won the Lafreniere lottery pick.

Yeah, of course, but what implications should that have? He is accused of something, he denies it. As far as we know he could be 100% innocent. Since so long time has past, it’s basically 100% that he will be acquitted, it will be word against word.

Should he be banned from the NHL forever? For a 1 year? For 5 years? A society can’t function like that.

In Vancouver he is seen as the lowest form of scum. Why? It’s not his fault that he was picked 2-3 rounds ahead where he should be picked. He likes to party when he was a teenager and then for a year or two. I’ve never seen anything else reported. Vancouver has kept him around, never disciplined him for any issues whatsoever, resigned him, not bought him out despite him not living up to his contract and so forth.

The right thing to do is without any single doubt to threat someone that has been accused of a crime but not found guilty as innocent. Its part of everyone’s moral contract with society.

Then he could be a bad signing for other reasons, not being a good player, not being a good teammate, if he isn’t devoted enough even after a change of scenery and what nor. But I do think it’s someone we should do our due diligence on.

When a team buys you out they know you did it.

No points wise he’s been fine. And he eats them up on the PP. I’m talking about the defensive side of his game mostly. Even last year, after a horrid start he still did fine numbers wise, thanks to the PP and the flyers

I think what changed things even more was getting Kakko, Lafreniere and Fox and how their next contracts will affect things.

Yeah well we just got done dumping DeAngelo and FWIW his f***ing up was just about the first really negative thing to have a major impact on our season. Bringing in possibly another disruptive personality into our locker room is not learning a lesson.

For sure, but doing the due diligence on the player to start with, giving him a PTO or whatever if he passes that, and then making a decision on him after camp when you have lived under the same roof as him for a few months — is something else.
