I don’t know where we’re at with today but have we made it clear that we should NOT sign accused rapist and terrible hockey player Jake Virtanen?

I wouldn’t rule out that I’ve convinced 1% of the posters here that we should, but I am optimistic… ;)

Wouldn't have minded Suter here for a year or two, but 4 is too much. Would've been fun to see him paired with Nils.

Man if he and/or Parise sign 4 year deals they are going to make out like bandits from this buyout since their contracts were both heavily front loaded.

It just occurred to me that the discussion about whether Chytil should take over 2C feels very similar to the discussion about whether Brassard was ready to take over 2C back in the day. Based on what we've seen of him, I think there's every reason to believe Chytil can be that level of player.

Brass was a bit older though.

I understand the apprehension, but I also think that its a good idea to see if your solution is already in house rather than moving a bunch of shit around because he may not be.

Yeah pretty much. Although ill stay say assuming this legal stuff ends and hes innocent idc if they sign him for cheap

True, but Brassard also didn't have a linemate like Panarin to help him.

I’d give Suter the 4 years if it kept the AAV down. It would be a movable contract in some fashion in years 3 or 4 if need be.

Suter pretty sure wants to play for a contender. Even though the Rangers are probably on the upswing. We aren't quite that.

Unless they want to shower him with money or he REALLY wants to play in NY.

You are probably right but I would give him the term he wants and try to sell him on the upswing of the team.

That may be true but we have Schneider who is likely the real owner of the other rd spot long term.

The thing about trading young players/prospects -- it's very very very rare to see two very highly regarded prospects swapped for each other at the peak of their prospect value. Young promising players are either traded for a win now piece. Or if they don't live up to expectations, they get swapped for a similar prospect who's in the same boat.

The risk of trading a very promising prospect for someone else's promising prospect is too high for a GM unless it's for cap or contention window timing. The closest thing the Rangers have done to what you're proposing is Gauthier for Keane and I would argue those players haven't exactly become NHL standouts or lived up to hype.

The rare time you might see two top prospects traded is when both teams have surpluses. But they are likely not trading the asset that they see as the top prospect at a given position. Nils is right now our #1 D prospect. If we are trading from our surplus of young D its far more likely to be Hunter Skinner or Robertson or maybe Jones. I think Nils and Braden are viewed as #1 and #2 d prospect and I can't see them being moved. If Drury isn't moving them for Eichel, they're not being moved for Turcotte.
