Would be quite something if Fox gets close to league max

I'm being facetious but thats the point, if Danault say got 7M per, then yes Zibanejad should get 10M+ but Zib is really good and can be great at times, but Eichel makes 10 and he's the better player so Zibanejad in that instance shouldn't get the "Eichel contract", but other contracts make it seem like players should.

I think Rangers sign him for like 9X6

Ok obviously you have watched him play but I still stand by the fact his point production isn't bad on the worst offensive team in hockey. All I am looking for is some options for a cost controlled center who has some more upside. I don't see any out there. We don't seem to be in the mood of drafting any in the first round
That's fair, and we can agree to disagree here since I don't have anything personal against Dvorak; I just don't think he's the right fit for what we need now.

The tough thing about what you're mentioning (bolded) is that every team in the league is too, and I think we're going to have to be able to make some concessions on the types of players we acquire. Just on Arizona alone, two potential targets could be Nick Schmaltz and Lane Pederson. I'd prefer Nick Schmaltz over Dvorak simply because of how good of a skater he is and how he can control the game through the neutral zone. Lane Pederson is another guy that's been in ARI's system for the last few years and has really done well in the AHL but hasn't gotten too much of a chance in the NHL. They're not sexy names, but they could be interesting targets. Another kid I really like is Nic Roy, but I doubt Vegas moves him after his past season.

If the playoffs isn't a "mandate" then maybe run the kid line full time and give Chytil the chance.

Lafraniere-Chytil-Kakko (they looked great last year together)
Panarin-Zibanejad-Kravtsov

could it blow up? sure, but we're not winning the cup next year anyway even if we made the playoffs, and you can always re assess after next season with trades/signings etc for an actual 2C that you feel more comfortable with.

It could also work out really well and you have your 1/2Cs

If the playoffs is a "mandate" and not a "goal" then I dont know if the Rangers give this the chance.

Zib is gonna want min 7 years. Guys his age always do especially with him having some concussion issues hes gonna want security i dont blame him, i just feel we should probably avoid that though no matter what i feel about him as a player or person.

Playoffs is the mandate though they just dont wanna admit it incase they come up short.

You're far more likely to see the kids scattered through the lineup (With a competent coach) than all playing together on a line.

There will also be enhanced special teams opportunities.

Panarin-Zibanejad-Lafreniere-Kreider
Fox

Kravtsov-Strome-Kakko
Lundkvist-Trouba

Kakko sees time on a penalty kill unit, ideally Chytil does as well.

Friedman on 31TP talking Eichel/NYR: "The Rangers and Sabres were just not close on the package. The Sabres wanted the likes of a Schneider or Lundkvist and the Rangers didn't want to go there, they (Sabres) wanted some of their top young players that are already on the roster.

Is this true, anyone hear this? we know how people can miscontrue things.

I already listed I would do georgiev, jones, and either our 1st (which should be later) or two 2nds. @bobbop who is fairly well versed with the yotes said he thought that would get it done. We dont have to touch our elite assets...

If we want to save our ammo I'd look at Mikael Granlund for a fix, he played well last year with Nashville and very well in the playoffs against Carolina.

If it’s true bravo Drury!

It was discussed earlier

I'm flabbergasted that people are putting 60 points for Danault with Panarin, but for some reason they think Dvorak will stay at 40 points playing with the same player. There's far more upside in Dvorak at 4.45M for 4 years than there is with Danault at 6+ X 6 and I dont think its really close. One is also 4 years younger. Remember when Strome was kinda chop liver as a former 1st round high pick? or Zibanejad in Ottawa? Rangers have had very good luck with both. Dvorak was another high 1st round pick, but oh no the Rangers might have to give up some picks when they only got 42 prospects they already can't find real spots for to put them in the best position to succeed lol.

My bad 2nd round pick. Still, Panarin can turn any 40 point center into a 50+ point center as long as he does other things well thats easily 2C amaterial. Yes Danault is that kind of player too, he's also 29 opposed to 25 which means his contract would start at the age Dvorak's ends
DVO is a 30 goal center with panarin on his left. Actually he’s probably a 30/30 center tbh, that the cost to acquire is not enormous

Friedman kicking off the podcast saying there is league wide anger and disgust over the MTL pick and Chicago stunt.
As there should be. Just unnecessary negative PR.

Though considering Bergevin was previously interested in Slava Voynov and DeAngelo, shouldn't come as a surprise either.

I think he has upside on a line with say Panarin and Kakko too, and if he's a 30/30 guy than thats more than acceptable as your 2C because he does other things Strome doesn't do, win face offs, better defensively, etc.

We have spent the last 2 months endlessly discussing trades and how to improve this team and now some are suggesting just go with the same centers we had last year. Makes no sense. It will be a repeat of last season when we came up short against the good teams. We need to start competing day in and day out. Going with the kids is fine but they will improve a heck of a lot more if they have a competent center playing with them. I don't know if the playoffs are a mandate but mediocrity sure as hell should not be.

I'm not sure there are many centers out there but maybe Drury can find one..

I think Zib:

9x6
8x8
Either deal includes a limited no trade clause (15 teams/last three years/etc etc)

if he wants a full no move- then the money drops by a million.

i think that is fair and along the lines we should suspect.

Fox should get similar.

Just guessing some of the RFA extensions this summer and Zib/Fox for next year (agreed upon this summer):
  • Chytil: 3 years $2.75MM AAV
  • Shesh: 4 years $4.5MM AAV
  • Fox: 8 years $9.5MM AAV
  • Zib: 6 years $8.5MM AAV NMC for the first 3 years, MNTC up to 16 teams last 3 years.

I don't want Eichel.

But if his medicals check out, and the best asset they want is Schneider along with something like Strome, Georgiev, and a 1st, I would take that shit and run.
