I don't think we have a C problem. If Danault is too expensive and the price for Eichel is too prohibitive (and I'd steer clear of Eichel anyway), then hold on to Strome and deal him at the deadline as a rental. Get Chytil the minutes he should have gotten last year, and then enter next summer with more knowledge (re: what we have in Chytil and how the new pieces fit in).

I’m all for patience and agree about Chytil getting more minutes. I think it’s time to move on from Strome though. He was trade bait before Covid yet kept, he played last season again, imo that’s enough. I think it’s time to move on.

Not really. Trading Schneider or Lundqvist who represent a position of strength for somebody that is from a position of weakness (Center) is exactly the move that could/should be done at some point. Whether that point is right now is the issue. In my mind, Brooks' tweet should've been the following instead:

To me, both of those players are key to our future cap management. I can see the Rangers moving Trouba to Florida in two years (either with a bit of retention or in return for the last year of Montour's contract) when Schneider is ready to step in to a full time role. That would leave Fox, Nils, and Schneider as the RD's. Moving Trouba and Kreider in 2 or 3 years is the key to cap management for this group.

I don't know much about Danault, but his stats leave much to be desired. Is it because he plays good defense? I still don't understand why everyone hates Strome who has elite chemistry with Panarin.
Danault has stone hands and no finish. Elite shutdown C and gooad at faceoffs, which we need, but the lack of offense is a huge turnoff. This is a guy who should get no more than 4.5 aav but will probable get 6+. No thanks.

People seriously underestimate the importance of PP time in point totals. Danault is as productive as many 1Cs in his ES time and he is an excellent defensive forward and PKer.

Strome gets spoon fed top PP time and gets to play with Panarin. He does nothing else worthwhile. If he wasn’t putting up the point totals he was with the opportunities he is constantly given, he wouldn’t be in this league

Pretty much the same even strength production as Strome the last two seasons. That's not with Panarin and not #UnderGallant.

Perhaps the Sabres should be more concerned with making their team better in the future rather than accepting lesser offers so they can play him twice a year instead of four or eight times.

Maybe the Sabres don't want Eichel in their division or Eichel in NY unless the deal is exactly they want. If we are trading Eichel to one of those teams, we want back every asset they have. If we lower our asking price in order to get a done deal and everyone moves on with their lives, we will send Eichel out west. The Sabres don't want Eichel in their division or Eichel in Manhattan. Whenever the Rangers are playing in Buffalo, the building will be full of NY area college students going to school in upstate NY rooting for Eichel and the Rangers. Buffalo knows they are not winning an Eichel deal. If Eichel stays healthy and remains a productive player, whatever they get in return isn't replacing Eichel. They aren't getting one player just as as Eichel or can be potentially just as good as Eichel. Eichel in the west will see him go to Buffalo once per year. The fans will boo him but he will be far away.

There was a report that the Pegula's would prefer Eichel being traded to the west. Adams is the GM right now. How many years will Adams be the GM in Buffalo? The Pegula's plan to be in Buffalo for a while. If I were ownership, I wouldn't want Eichel playing for one of my rivals or playing in Manhattan unless one of those teams gave up everything we wanted. The Sabres can get a lesser deal from a team in the west.

NJ finally WEAPONIZED that cap space. Good pickup for them , their d-corps was an abortion. Don't expect him to be at his Carolina best though.
