I don't know much about Danault, but his stats leave much to be desired. Is it because he plays good defense? I still don't understand why everyone hates Strome who has elite chemistry with Panarin.

Because he had bad years in Edmonton so everyone thinks Panarin is carrying him despite his numbers, both conventional and advanced, being promising both with and without Panarin. Also, his defense improved last year, he started PKing and took less penalties.

so Danault isn’t going to Vegas and neither is Strome

maybe OTT can gear up for Strome. The OTT intesterest in Strome I think has been the more genuine and sincere. Just a matter of price. Guessing Drury is the one that dominoed the Dadonov trade.

Danault has stone hands and no finish. Elite shutdown C and gooad at faceoffs, which we need, but the lack of offense is a huge turnoff. This is a guy who should get no more than 4.5 aav but will probable get 6+. No thanks.

He's more of a distributor than a goal scorer. I think he'd do well with someone like Kreider.

Maybe the Sabres don't want Eichel in their division or Eichel in NY unless the deal is exactly they want. If we are trading Eichel to one of those teams, we want back every asset they have. If we lower our asking price in order to get a done deal and everyone moves on with their lives, we will send Eichel out west. The Sabres don't want Eichel in their division or Eichel in Manhattan. Whenever the Rangers are playing in Buffalo, the building will be full of NY area college students going to school in upstate NY rooting for Eichel and the Rangers. Buffalo knows they are not winning an Eichel deal. If Eichel stays healthy and remains a productive player, whatever they get in return isn't replacing Eichel. They aren't getting one player just as as Eichel or can be potentially just as good as Eichel. Eichel in the west will see him go to Buffalo once per year. The fans will boo him but he will be far away.

There was a report that the Pegula's would prefer Eichel being traded to the west. Adams is the GM right now. How many years will Adams be the GM in Buffalo? The Pegula's plan to be in Buffalo for a while. If I were ownership, I wouldn't want Eichel playing for one of my rivals or playing in Manhattan unless one of those teams gave up everything we wanted. The Sabres can get a lesser deal from a team in the west.

If the packages offered were close in value I can see that, but if the Rangers or a division team's offer is significantly better in assets, I can't see Adams turning it down.

It comes down to what type of player you think you need to win. The Rangers have elite offense in abundance. They need those guys they can send out there in third periods and trust to protect a lead. Strome is hardly that guy.

Then there's also the thought that prior to coming to New York, Strome was hardly an elite producer. This begs the question, could a guy like Danault, a 40-50 point center, become a 60+ point center playing with Panarin while being a guy you can trust in all situations and at the same price?

I tend to believe that is the case. I also have completely come to believe that the salary cap is a bunch of bullshit and if we need to get out of a contract we will, so we shouldn't hold back because we're concerning about signing someone who will be an albatross in 5 years.

People seriously underestimate the importance of PP time in point totals. Danault is as productive as many 1Cs in his ES time and he is an excellent defensive forward and PKer.

Strome gets spoon fed top PP time and gets to play with Panarin. He does nothing else worthwhile. If he wasn’t putting up the point totals he was with the opportunities he is constantly given, he wouldn’t be in this league

Maybe there's a reason Danault doesn't get PP time.

Don't bother people have stamped him as a terrible player and one who can't play defense or play without Panarin, its tattooed on his soul now.

I'd be amenable to that if the center issue solved itself without needing to use trade capital. Either way, it's a thread the needle situation.

We have other draft capital in Jones, draft picks, Strome, etc. That won't bring back a #1C, but we can't really afford to have two #1Cs.

@Tob , its been real my friend
