Yes, because he doesn't have a powerplay skill set. Even strength scoring is important because only five players get significant powerplay time.

So why are we throwing out the fact that Strome can play on the PP, even if he's not an elite PP player? We're just ignoring that to focus on ES points.

Weren't there people here who didn't even want to discuss the possibility of signing Coleman because he was DEFINITELY going home to the Stars?

I don't know much about Danault, but his stats leave much to be desired. Is it because he plays good defense? I still don't understand why everyone hates Strome who has elite chemistry with Panarin.

Danault has stone hands and no finish. Elite shutdown C and gooad at faceoffs, which we need, but the lack of offense is a huge turnoff. This is a guy who should get no more than 4.5 aav but will probable get 6+. No thanks.

As has been said many times, Danault's EV numbers (23 in 53 games) are comparable with Strome's (29 in 56 games). I don't know who Danault was playing with in Montreal, but it wasn't Panarin. And this past year was a down year for Danault. The year before he had 43 EVP in 71 games. Strome had 41 EVP in 70 games.

This year, Strome averaged 3:14 per game on the PP while Danault averaged :19 per game. Their EV ice time was comparable, 14:07 for Strome and 14:15 for Danault.

Danault kills penalties. 2:17 per game, most of any forward on team. Strome averaged :55 per game on the PK, 6th most among forwards.

Danault is much better on faceoffs (52.5%) than Strome (43.2%).

Danault will cost a similar amount to what Strome will cost on his next contract. He is also free to acquire as a free agent, while we can trade Strome for assets.

I'm good with Danault getting 1 mill over what he should get. There's some offensive upside there going by his 5v5 numbers and we don't have to give up any assets. It also allows Chytil to share that 2C/3C spot and get big minutes.
