It's funny when you're checking Cap Friendly for different teams and different players that you think 'could' be available and then you see a guy like Ross Colton and you think "well, he'd surely be nice but there's probably no way they are trading him and IF THEY ARE, there is no way in hell they are trading him to US"...

That was me last week. LOL
seriously! i did the exact same thing. I thought about tossing his name out there but thought it was outlandish.

If he gets $3.5M, Bo gets $4.5M and you add 2 4th liners at $950K, that only leaves $4M for 3 middle 6 wingers. No room for anything big there. I wonder if moving Girard is still in the cards to beef-up further the middle 6 and add a bigger 3rd pair Dman...
With how CMac is doing so far, I would love for him to trade Girard

Absolutely LOVE this trade and adore the player.

What a gamer Colton is.

Led all Lightning forwards in hits last year, he looks to level anybody with their head down. Brings serious energy out on the ice. Underrated goal scorer, if he's encouraged to shoot the puck more and play more like a top 9 forward instead of a bottom 6 one, there's untapped offensive potential. Good in the faceoff dot, adds another element we need.

Super scrappy, hard-nosed player that you completely hate playing against.

Fantastic acquisition, I'm really happy.

CMac doing all the work that we thought it would take moving Toews or Girard for with only Newhook.

Dude is a gamer when it comes to trades. This really seems to be a major strength for this club. Especially the pro-scouts who help him target the right players. I prefer to pretend that the 2021 deadline we witnessed was from an alternate universe.

I think it's a good trade but what I don't get is why Tampa felt the need to upgrade their 3C with Nick Paul if Colton was good enough at center for a cup contender?

True.

Instead, we get Newhook for Colton + #31 + That Dman guy F something
#AssetManagement

He's an undersized, effort 3rd liner. Good speed, plays physical, great motor, yappy... Offensively his best traits are his shot and his tenacity. Not super good with the puck, but doesn't really hurt you. His game is north/south. Defensively he's pretty good, I wouldn't say elite, but he can matchup just fine and hold his own.

Tampa really couldn't keep him longer-term, they have their own cap issues, but as much as that... when they got Paul they locked themselves into a Point-Cirelli-Paul rotation at center.
If CapFriendly is correct, Colton doesn't have a contract. I wonder if Colorado talked with him/agent about that, prior to making the trade.

He was unproven and they had concerns about Cirelli being able to hold up through the playoffs... where it turned out Point was the one who wouldn't hold up.
