Biondi is in the NCAA so won't be there and Simoneau is 21, so no bueno. The rest looks about right.

European teams might be in league play at the time, so it might be unlikely we see Heineman, Kapanen, Engstrom or Nurmi.

Croteau and Biondi will be in the NCAA.

So expect some camp invites.

Biondi and Croteau are NCAA. They won't be there.

Kapanen, Engstrom, and Nurmi will surely be in Europe as their seasons will either already have started or about to start.

Also, not sure Mailloux will be there. Although it could be possible. You're missing Xhekaj and Fairbrother. I also wouldn't fully rule out Harris and Barron taking part.

Prospects who won't be at this Rookie Tournament:

NCAA
Farrell, Biondi, Struble, Hutson, Tuch, Smilanic, Pitlick, Smith, Gorniak. Croteau & Dobes

Europe
Kapanen, Nurmi, Engstrom, Kostenko, Gordin & Dichow

Harris is too old

Nope. He just turned 22.

In 2019, Evans took part in the rookie tournament and he was 23 and Leskinen took part and he was 22.

I mis-read a post in regards to the tournament...I thought it was written that this tournament will be for prospects 20 years and younger, which would have been a change from past years, but it was actually written: "The event is typically reserved for prospects 20 years old or younger"...So Simoneau will likely be there.

Exactly. Because typically most of a team's prospects are 20 or younger. But it's not like the WJC where it's U20. Prospects who are 21, 22, and as in Evans' case, 23, participate in these showcases.

Feels weird we told Slaf and Mesar not to go to the juniors but they can go to this...

can't wait tho!

They will go to this because it's Montreal Canadiens.

Also to specify, they weren't told not to go. The Habs asked they take the time to rest and prepare for camps. But they left the decision up to the players.

Yeah I get why they're going I just don't really see this as a particularly more valuable developmental tool than the juniors would be.

Let’s face it though, if the Habs had really wanted the decision to be the players’, they wouldn’t have added the caveat about preparing for the camps. These players did not want to put themselves in a position of negating the club’s “ask”. It would not have been a good start to the relationship.

Mailloux is still recuperating from his injury. I'd be stunned if he's at rookie tournament.

Frankly, I'm surprised that we go there. I don't see any benefit whatsoever.

That is a fair point.

But there are a lot of prospects that opted not to participate because this tournament is close to rookie and main camps. And whether it was the clubs or the agents who advised the players or the prospects themselves who made the decision, it's clear the priority for many of them is the NHL.

And while participating in the WJC is a good thing, I wouldn't consider that more important to a player's development than actually taking part in NHL camps, whether rookie camp, main camp, and pre-season.

Wouldn’t be surprised if agents provided the lay of the land for those new incoming drafted players out of Europe. The timing of the WJC made it an easy decision, for the most part.

Why?

The Montreal Canadiens drafted Slafkovsky & Mesar to be Montreal Canadiens.

One really has nothing to do with the other.

the WJCs being a developmental tool is completely overblown.

I don't think it is whatsoever.

You'd likely have a better top-6 with this, capitalizing more on the complimentary skill sets:

Slaf- Mesar - Roy
Mysak - Kidney - Heineman

Roy is better as the trigger man for WJC as when playing with Dfour, than as a puck-digging winger when playing on the Bedard line.

Slaf can dig out the pucks and Mesar can set up Roy.

Mysak can play LW and Heineman can get to score from his offside. Kidney is best at C.

Mailloux is still recuperating from his injury. I'd be stunned if he's at rookie tournament.

Every out of town tournament where he doesn't hook up with a new girl is a win. Hope he plays.

Purchased my tickets ... for the Sunday afternoon game too! Going down with 3 friends.

Guys, feel free to send me a private text if you wish to get together inside the arena (or elsewhere).
