Kings News: Robyn Regehr to LA for 2nd in 2014, 2nd in 2015

To some of you, a 2nd and a 4th or 5th may have been enough, but to other NHL teams, they may have been willing to go the distance and cough up that extra 2nd round pick. Paul Gaustad was dealt for a 1st round pick for christssakes. George Parros in the past was dealt for a 2nd. How would you have felt if the Ducks or Sharks or Canucks added Regehr for their playoff push? Believe me, the Kings wouldn't enjoy playing against him.

I'd love to see the Sharks waste draft picks just to have one more golfing buddy. :sarcasm:

I don't fear RR of today. He has slowed down allot this season or at least he had in Buffalo. Maybe he will reignite his skating with us and I believe like I have said that he will be a solid addition and I am happy we have him but he isn't a game breaker or a key piece. He is a good piece, a solid piece and will be a good help but if he had gone to San Jose I wouldn't have cared nor would I have feared facing him on Vancouver.

Having said that I am certain that none of the teams in our conference are happy that we picked up RR. The reason is that we already have one of the best D groups in the NHL and already play a solid team game and now come playoff time they will have to face Greenie and RR along with Doughty Scuderi and the rest.

Also, if it weren't for Shero being a complete idiot and overpaying for the true one trick pony in Murray I still believe that RR would have cost us a 2nd and a 4rth (maybe a 5th) as had been rumored a few weeks ago.

We paid 2 2nd round picks and I am happy we have Regehr on the team. This isn't an issue at all for me. We got better and now that WillieM is absolutely out for the season we have a vet (though a much lesser one) to take his place and provide us with some missing grit.

Some posters here feel that having the opinion that we slightly overpaid for RR means that some of us think it was a bad move or that we don't want/aren't happy to have RR on the team. The two positions aren't mutually exclusive. It's alright to think that we overpaid *a little bit* for RR and still believe that he is a valuable player for the team to have picked up and to like the fact that we got him.

Really, it is.

;)

I remember when I paid more attention to the draft than free agency, or even the late season standings. I'm glad those days are over.

As pretty much always, completely agreed tonellisghost. We overpaid, but meh we needed this, IMO. Regehr will be really nice for another Cup run...might hurt the system depth down the road, but I am ok with that right now.

I guess the real question that needs to be asked is, do you want another cup? If so, did this trade move us closer to that end? I believe it does, therefore it wasn't an over payment in my eyes. If DL believed he wasn't giving up exactly what we needed to get the piece that was needed, he wouldn't have made the trade. I don't know about everyone else, but gathering picks for the future is great. But this isn't ain't the 90's. We got depth, and another run at the cup right in front of us. That's ultimately what the picks are for, after all.

:)

I wouldn't be shocked if we saw

Muzz-Doughty in the offensive zone and
RR-DD in the defensive zone

Kind of like a platoon situation or what the Sedins do in Van

Keep Scuds-VV together

See this is a problem.

Because adding RR doesn't absolutely promise us the cup. If it did then we would all be popping champagne corks (or beer or pop or whatever we celebrate with) today and the NHL would just hand us the cup.

Everyone agrees that RR is a good pick up and we are happy to have him. Just because some of us feel that we overpaid a little bit for him doesn't mean that we don't want to win the cup or that we think that we have damaged our system or anything else. We don't blame DL for paying what he did nor do we think he was pressured into making the deal to keep RR away from our opponents.

I personally believe that we had to overpay a bit for RR because of Shero paying a ridiculous amount to bring in Murray but that is debatable.

Not a major deal but there you go.

No deal ever guarantees a Cup win. Kovalchuk didn't guarantee one for the Devils. Hossa didn't guarantee one for the Penguins. Morrow and Iginla don't guarantee one for the Penguins. The only thing you can do is make the moves that you feel give you the best chance to win, and I believe that's what Lombardi is doing here.

People here always want to ***** about every trade the Kings make. I was shocked by the ignorance floating round here when Visnovsky was traded for Stoll and Greene.

Everyone needs to chill. Be glad the team is in "win now" mode for once rather than trading our vets for 5th rounders.

Dean's got this.

I agree completely as I have said all along in each of my responses to this deal.

That was a long physical. I hope they didn't make him bend over and cough

According to the Kings' twitter feed, Regehr will wear #44. He has big shoes to fill there taking over Drewiske's number.

"RR44" just doesn't have the same heft to it.

Also. Is this another case of a guy declining to wear Rob Blake's old number?
