Klefbom < McDonagh right now but you are comparing a 23 yr old to a 27 yr old and Klefbom's potential is sky high. Going to be really good down the line.

I can forsee Klefbom having similar value to McDonagh in a few seasons. Not a knock on McDonagh, more an endorsement of Klefbom. I think he is the best D the Oilers have in their system right now.

No, Larson is the best D on the Oilers right now. Klef is good but Larson is better.

RNH, Klefblom, a 2017 2nd for Mcdonagh.

Not the worst trade proposal I've seen this month, but pretty close. Oilers give up all of that and still don't land a RH puck-moving defenceman? Not to mention Mcdonagh has a great contract for only 3 more seasons, and then he's gonna get paid. Klefbom is on one of the best contracts in the league (4.1m AAV for seven more years) even if he only gets slightly better than he is right now.

No brother, I've watched 100s of games played by Nuge. About 15-20 for Stepan.

That's why I asked for objective opinions, I'm always willing to admit my own bias if it is there. I think Nuge has something to him, he'll be a top level 2-way C in the years to come. I'm curious what others think of him.

Whoa, didn't realize you were an expert.

RNH to NYR may be a fit, but that deal is not one that would do it.
RNH>Stepan
Mcdonagh>Klefbom, but the age difference makes it a wash IMO.

Edmonton is young and wouldn't get a whole lot better with that deal.

Upon review of my proposal, i completely understand where oilers fans stand with their viewpoint, but with a player like Mcdavid on your team you arent waiting for him to be 26 to be in his prime...this kid is ready to go, personally i think EDM makes playoffs this year, i like what they did with their team this offseason but they need experience. Stepan and McD would be perfect fits there, both players are young enough to make last and on fair contracts for what they offer. They are both players used to going deep in the playoffs year in and year out and they are both two way players.

Lucic-Mcdavid-eberle
pouliot-Stepan-yak? (BLEH)
Maroon-Drai-Pulju
Hendricks-Letestu-Kassian

MCd-Larsson (legit top pair)
Nurse-Davidson
Sekera-Fayne

....that is team that if playing well are a trade deadline move away from winning a playoff round if Talbot plays up to his potential and consistently. RNH and Klefbom on other hand come to a new look rangers team that is "rebuilding" without tanking and yes for next year or two it wont make them better but down the road youll have studs in their prime.

Confused because you said Edmonton is good enough to make the playoffs with their lineup now and then win a playoff round if they trade for McDonagh and Stepan and if Talbot plays up to his potential. So, Edmonton makes the trade so they can win one playoff round? and that's only if Talbot plays well?

Klefbom is a top 4 D and will be top 2 fairly soon. This trade is a lateral move at best.

Based on what exactly?

Are you kidding me?

He's a first overall pick and he's 23 years old, of course hes better.

Stepan is already 26, too old for the Oilers future plans. I hope he doesn't turn into Chris Drury this year, cause hes been playing on the Rangers so long. We have enough problems with Wade McDonagh.

I'd agree Larsson is the best D right at the moment, I mean that I think Klefbom has the best upside + likelyhood of reaching it, and so will be the best D in a season or two.

Well let's see. Klefboms small sample size last year was pretty unreal while being stuck with shultz. I do think larsson klefbom will be a great pairing tho

Would rather keep RNH Stepanis a good player, but I think RNH will be a 2 way beast entering his prime

Well this thread has prettymuch run its course. Both sides prefer their guys and are trying to justify why the other should want to do this trade.

but actually this is all just an EO thing, that NYR was drug into

EO fans want to continue the purge,
and get the assets they want, and believe they deserve

NYR have no need to scuttle their roster for RNH
NYR got a younger skilled C in Zib, and didn't purge other parts of the roster to get him

besides RNH should be part of their future, they're gonna be scary good in ~2 years when Mcdavid, Pulju and Drai aren't new kids anymore
