In Ben Maxwell's rookie AHL season, he had an excellent 58 points in 73 games. He was a good prospect, he just never grew after that. Not sure what happened.

I liked Maxwell, so i was disappointed it never worked out. One thing that stood out is that he never displayed any urgency in his game and was really soft. If not in a scoring role, he was really useless. And in the end, he wasn't skilled enough to be gifted an offensive role.

If he had more versatility to play different roles, I believe he could have carved a career and eventually become a top 6 through continued growth. But he couldn't be that right away and had no other tool at his disposal.

Too bad.

That's exactly what I remember of him, guy didn't like to be hit or pushed around, and just disappeared often because of that, played his game on the perimeter most of the time and rarely went near the boards. Had the size, skating and hands to be more, but just didn't want it enough.

Haven't watched a single Bathurst game this season. How do Kidney and Lapierre compare, being on the same team, same position?
Lapierre is bulkier and gets quick and unexpected accelerarions that are a feature of is style.
He is also a very good passer with an excellent vision.
However he is not a shooter nor a scorer and will always pass first.
We also can see that on breakaways where Kidney is superior.

Kidney can be very deceptive with his sudden stops, moves and faints.
Both control very well the puck and I would add that Kidney finishes the plays more often, that it be scoring a goal or a pass that is converted to a goal.
He has that Caufield/Suzuki sense for the scoring.

That’s the danger of determining whether prospects performance on points alone though. It was pretty clear that Maxwell had obvious holes to his game and the probability of his game being effective at the NHL was always quite low.

Pretty underrated prospect, 50 points, 20 goals in 38 games. Good stats at 18 years old.

Great hands, great two-way ability, got high hockey IQ.

I think is going to be at least Top 9 C in NHL, if his translate his offensive game at higher level, can be a good top 6 C.

Looks a bit like KK on this play imo.

He's still plugging away in the SHL with Lingkoping at the ripe old age of 33 with a couple of interesting draft eligible teammates in big center Filip Bystedt and RHD Mattias Havelid

All the talk is Josh Roy but Riley Kidney has quietly amassed over 80 points and had 4 assists tonight.

It is not true. The east conference is a little bit better but the east has two more teams.. The east also has the worst team in the league. The west has 59.6 point on average per team, the east has 60.2 points per team.

And Kidney play vs way better competition (the maritime are stack this year)

Interesting, joshua roy was selected 1st overall in the Q draft. Kidney at 12th..
I wonder why/what was seen in the draft that roy slipped to rd5??

He didn’t play much during covid and wasn’t super productive when he did. There were also questions about his skating and his work ethic. He’s answered the questions about his production and his work ethic, just needs to continue developing his skating.

Most of the other top scorers are small older guys, lots of 5'9 20-21 year olds. Dufour is big, 20, and an Islanders pick. Parent is 21 and 5'8 undrafted, Rochette is 20, undrafted. Roy and Kidney look like good picks so far.

The Blues have a couple of the picks in the race, Bolduc and Michel, though Michel is 20.

Pretty good year for the habs. Two players near the lead at 18, plus Simoneau who is out injured but is up there in ppg as a 20 year old. He had 89 points 2 years ago. Unlikely that he becomes a scorer in the NHL but he could be useful, even as a smaller player. Stocky, I think.
